C6 speech（Vocal Variety, 5 to 7 minutes）
Title: You wanna be on top?
On my C4 speech, I mentioned the show “One Million Star”. It leaded a tendency towards singing contest, as if we hold singing contest for Christmas party, right! We can see more and more similar shows on TV, “Sunday Happy Star” and “Super Idol”. People discuss it and go after the competitors, and the media cover it everyday. Why can the TV show cause such a big stir in entertainment, even in our life? They make the show so true to our life. Everyone needs a stage to present himself or herself.
All the competitors have the same hobby. They like singing. They attend the contest to show their great interests in singing and make their dreams come true. To achieve the goal, they practice once and once, rehearse again and again, lean experience from each competition and each judge’s words, and improve it step by step. Sure, someone will be eliminated in the early stage, and someone will stay at last. However, it’s just a beginning. It’s a chance and a way to stand on the stage.
“You wanna be on top?” It’s a slogan from American Next Top Model. It makes me immensely impressive. Yep, if we want to be on top, we should pay more efforts and have a try. In our life, we have a lot of opportunities. Sometimes we miss it, and sometimes we take it. So, it just depends on what we are going to do.
My fellow members, as Toastmaster, we are here because we like English. Toastmaster provides us not only a big stage to speak English, but also a chance to show ourselves and learn English. We write down the scripts to prepare, and do rehearsals once and once again. When delivering, we use the different skills we learn to enrich our speech. (eyes contact, body language, vocal variety) At last, evaluators will give some suggestions to make us become better and better. Also, language evaluator will correct our grammar, pronunciation and so on. How to find such a great club?
I still remember the first time I stood in front of you. It was Table Topic time. My mind went blank. I almost couldn’t say anything and answer the question. When I delivered C1 speech, I was shaking with nervous and afraid to see all of you. After more than one year, now I stand in front of you and deliver my C6 speech. I’m still nervous but I’m not afraid. I learn form everyone, every speech, and every meeting during these days. It’s a process to be close to top.

A17 the Demonstration Talk (Speaking to Inform, 5 to 7 minutes)
Title: It is stupid! But you are smart!
Prepare a demonstration speech to clearly a process, product, or activity.
Conduct the demonstration as part of a speech delivered without notes
Do you remember that where does this slogan come from? Yes! It comes from A FILM COMERICAL VIDEO. What is it? An automatic camera! Most of you know that I like to take photos, and take some good photos. Might you say "O Common Jonathan, You take good pictures because you have a professional camera! Actually, that’s one of reasons. Even you use a Consumer Digital Camera; you also can take great photos. There some key functions you should know when you use it ~ so tonight I will use this stupid camera as an example to show how does it work?
(Slide)Each consumer camera has some basic model! (Introduce the model dial)
1. Normal Picture Mode: The aperture value and the shutter speed are automatically adjusted
2. Simple mode: You can take pictures easily because you have only to set the minimum number of menus.
3. Macro mode: This allows you to get closer to the subject.
4. Portrait mode: This allows you to make a subject out from an unfocused background and adjust the exposure and the hue.
5. Landscape mode: We can capture sharp and crisp landscape photos easily. It’s suitable for landscape father than 3 M away and in daylight.
6. Night Portrait mode: This allows you to record the subject clearly in front of beautiful night illumination.
Do you think that choosing a right mode can take a good photo? Not really! ~ There are some functions which you can adjust

2007/11/20 Lillian Tseng's C8 speech
Many years ago, there is a man wants to dating with me. When he knew I can play golf, he tried to create a connection between him and me. He told me that he always went to driving ranch to practice. I was so happy and curiosity that we have same interest we can talk about. I ask him which golf club is his favorite golf club, he was speechless. He doesn’t know there are many golf clubs in one set. Actually, he doesn’t know anything about golf. Therefore, I never went out with him again.
Ladies and Gentlemen
When I first learn how to play golf, I started learning from how to hold my golf club and tied and feel comfortable. Then I start to learn how to swing my body from top to bottom, let it looks like a semicircle shape. Then try to aim and hit the little white ball. In the first month, I did the same practice over and over again. Due to the practice, the opportunity of hitting ball becomes grater from 10% to 80%. Are the entire ball well hitting by me? Of course not. Most of the ball I hit was ground ball. Next step I learn is to practice different # of golf club. I try to adjust my stand position little by little to suit the different golf clubs, because each clubs has different height and different angle. After I learn the skill of hitting ball, I started to add power when I swing my body and hit the ball. How long have I spent on this process? 1 month? 3 months? 6 months? I spent a year to learn the basic skills. But I am still not qualified to go on golf course. I admire Tiger Woods. He started to learn golf since he was 5 years old. He is ranking #1 professional golf player in the World when he was 22 years old. He is still continuing to practice, to attend golf tournament.
Thomas Alva Edison said “Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration”. Being successful, there is no short cut way, you must do it, review it, and improve little by little. Apply to the Toastmasters; first, you must step out your comfort zone. Stand on the stage, tried to conquer y our nervousness, tried to speak out to 20 people. It’s just like how to hold your golf club tie and feel comfortable. Second, you have to follow the manual to learn how to sell out yourself to audience. Third, you need a good opening to attract audience’s attention. Then, you have to pay attention on the eye contact, facial expression, body language, gestures, voice volume, voice pitch and emotion while you are speaking. It’s just like practice different # of golf clubs, try to adjust your position to suit the gold club. Think back my C1 speech in 2005, I actually fail it because over time. A year later, I did my C2 speech, I finished it on time, but I saw my script most of time. When I heard my evaluator giving comments, it’s hurt but will help me getting better. However, we still need to do C3, C4 and go on. But you need to beware the eye contact, body language, voice volume to present a well speech. It’s just like add power when I hit little white ball. 2007/11/6 Shuni Hamamatsu's C1 speech
Ladies and Gentlemen: Have you ever wish you can stick a note on your back, describing who you are and what you do, so everyone can read it and get to know you? Well, we all want people to know who we are, don’t we. But, we don’t really want to stick a note on our back, so we invented uniforms to let people know who we are. You see, doctors automatically look so smart in their uniforms, and Wang Jian Ming looks so handsome and tall in Yankee’s uniform. They are lucky bastards, everybody know them.
I wish I can wear a doctor uniform and I wish I am as tall and popular as Wang Jian Ming, but I am not. So I really need this opportunity to express my amazing inner beauty to you. So, let’s get rolling.
Do you know the liberal and conservative spectrum? Well I will put myself right over here, on way left to the liberal side. So, what is a liberal person? I think if I were born 100 years ago, I would be a communist. Liberal person like me, we accept and respect diversities in society. For example in Taiwan, we have ethnic diversity in Taiwanese, Chinese, Hakka, Aboriginals and some new south Asian wives. Then of course we have the gender and sexual difference in man, woman, straight and homosexuals. I don’t even want to get into the differences in our religions. Well, my point is, despite all the differences, I believe we can all live in peace. And I believe we can learn to respect and be considerate to our differences. Do you know why I become this way? Well, I have been a minority for my entire life. Don’t worried, I am not going to come out of the closet and tell you I am a gay. You see, I lived in Japan as a little Taiwanese boy, because my father is a Taiwanese. Then I went to the America and studied as an Asian student. Now I am back in Taiwan and I am Lisa’s Japanese husband. Right, I have always been a minority. Luckily, wherever I went, everybody treated me nicely. Anyway, discrimination is not my issue here; the importance of diversity is my issue. In college I enjoyed a great deal of diversity. I had a great womanizing roommate from Honduras, a really lazy roommate with a big heart from Japan and a hard working, gentleman from Ethiopia. I have dated girls from America, China, Russia, Japan, Taiwan and Burma. I was like a kid in a candy store. There are so many new and exciting things to learn from these people everyday. I’ve never had a boring day in my life.
This is why I like to come to the Toastmasters. Although most of you are Taiwanese, but you still form a great diverse group. I love to continue to come here and hear your crazy ideas and opinions. And I hope we can be open to talk about politics, religion and sex too. I don’t think I will feel offended in any topic.
Now, woman in this room must be getting jealous of Lisa, why only she gets to have such a wonderful husband. Well I tell you, I am not that perfect. In fact I am quite a male chauvinist. How can I be a liberal guy and a chauvinist? It’s very contradicting. Well, logically I am a liberal minded man, but biologically I am a male chauvinist. Logically, I know women are just as capable as man or even better and woman reserve equal right. But, I cannot stand losing to a woman. I also don’t like to listen to women. When I was living with my American host family, my American mother once slapped me across the face so hard because she was very frustrated that I only listen to my American father. At home, I have never helped Lisa with housework and I think educating the kids is her job. All I do at home is drinking beer, watch sports channel on TV and download porn movie with my computer. Well Lisa let me get away with all these because she admit that she didn’t see this side of me when we got married. Well the truth is, Lisa knows I have a good heart, and I really love her and admire her.
Finally, everybody, I might not be very discreet when I talk. Sometime you maybe offended by me. But remember, I never have bad intentions. So, let’s laugh and joke together for years to come.

2007/10/16 Lillian Chen's C10 speech
Title: Give Someone a Hand
Don’t know when in the society people become selfish. People are not helping each other; also your kindness might get you into the trouble. And People can’t trust each other anymore. Anyway, in our life time we just want to have a piece quiet and safe life. That’s the reason you can’t see people give their hand to help other people and that’s why this society people becomes cooler and cooler.
Last month, I when to the hospital, I was in the pharmacy waiting for my medicines. I saw something happen. An old man carried a lot of medicines; he walked to the first row of sit and tried to sit on the chair. After he sat on the chair, his money was dump. On the second row there was a young man sitting behind him. The young man didn’t bend down to help the old man. Instead of he saw the old man stood up and bends down to pick the money by himself. All he done was standing up and step away just watched the old man to pick up his money. I couldn’t get it. The old man couldn’t move will, as you know old man move very slow so that the old man had to spend a lot of the time to pick up the money. But, the young man could move quickly and won’t spend a lot of time. Beside that, the old man made me feel like bend down was very painful thing for him. Why didn’t the young man just give the old man a hand? I wondered. Until last week, I found my answer.
Last week, my mother and I went to a school to meet the costumers. On the way back to the car, there is a kid lie on the floor and he looked pint for. I walked to him and said “Are you alright?” He didn’t answer me and I didn’t know was he heard me or not, so I was going to ask him again. This time my mother tried to step me and pulled me away from there. I looked at her and waited for her to tell me why she would do this. She said that because there no one around there. If we went to help the kid, other people just walk by and they might thought we was the one to make the kid fall down, because the kid couldn’t say a word. If there was someone over there, we can go help. Because every on could watch it and no one would blame it to us.
Now I realize why the young man I saw on the hospital didn’t want to help the old man. I believed that he had some thought was my mother had. He afraid that the old man would think he was going to still his money. The “misunderstanding” really made those people who like to help felt depress. Think about it, we saw someone who needs a hand. We give them the hand, but it rune out like we are the one to hurting them. It really broke our heart. That is why now people are stop to give someone a hand, and become to protect themselves and way from the event.
Well, I know in this society still has some one with their good heart willing to give the hand to someone else. Like in 1999 the 921 big earthquake, people willing to donate the money, goods, and foods to those people who need the help and also help them to build up their home. In 2004 the big tsunami, the entire world donated the money to help them build up their home too. Even on the news on the television tell some sad story and asked for donation, and next day a lot the money going to the bank. Yes, you see still in the society people have good heart like to help. But did you realize those are good events. Everyone knows it really need the help and won’t be afraid it was a track. The people around you are you really given them a hand? The answer is not really, because of misunderstanding and lying.
I believed all the members sitting over here are like to give your friends or someone you know a head. How about the stranger around you? I believed you will thing about it, include myself. I will do the something think first. It is not we don’t believed strangers, because we heard a lot of thing what the strangers would had done to other people who given them a hand.
I believed you have heard this kind of story and it did happen to my brother’s friend. There is a man walk to my brother’s friend and ask to borrow his cellular phone. That man said “Sir, can I borrow your cellular phone. I need to make an emergence call, but I couldn’t find the public telephone.” Therefore, my brother’s friend borrowed his cellular phone to that man. After the man had the phone, he pretended that the connection was not good. So, he walked a step away from my brother’s friend and smile to him. One minute after that man run way. My brother’s friend went chase that man, but he couldn’t catch him.
Broadcast always told us we need to be aware on the stranger when someone asks for help don’t help because it might be a track. The safe way to protect ourselves is not to care about other. Just like once I lost my cellular phone. I hope someone had found my cellular phone. I want to make a phone call to my cellular phone. I look around there was not public phone. So, I tried to ask the stranger to borrow the phone to help me found my cellular phone. But no one was welling to borrow their cellular phone to me. That was the first time I felt the society are so cold. No one likes to help a helpless girl.
We are welling to help other because we believed they really need the help. How about other? The world is change. People’s minds are change too. But we should still need to believe in this society, in this world people still have good heart and like to give someone a hand. Also believe there not lie other really need our help. Next time when some strangers ask for help, try to give them your hand. Therefore people to people will be warm not be cold anymore.

Two days after is my birthday, and it will be an important day because I will enter my next golden stage of life. Two years ago was a happy Christmas day, and it was also an important day because I started my toastmaster’s life. When our IPP John used his tender voice to ask “Darlene, would you like to join our club?” and firmly eye sight to look at me “ Just say yes, Darlene” and used his strong hands to shake with me, I only can said “Yes, I do” and concluded by John. Time flies, I joined toastmaster almost two years, from a member to EVP to president and now to become a division D3 governor. I always talk to other members, I am force to progress too fast, just like a Chinese idiom says “揠苗助長”
But the truth is… I really learn a lot in toastmasters. Today I will share my experiences with all my dear members.
In my two years toastmaster’s life, what I have learned is already transform to seven words. It’s my name~ DARLENE. You must be curious about why I have learned is related to my name, let me tell you. D is do. In toastmasters, we learn trough experiences, so the more you do, the more experiences you get. So next time when our EVP Jenny assigned you to do any meeting roles, please don’t refuse her, contrarily, you have to seize the chance and say says. Remember you have to “Do more” then you can “Get more”. A is attitude. Attitude is very important when you join the meeting, we are here not only to learn English, but also learn communication skills, so everyone could be your learning target. Therefore, your attitude must be right. If you have right attitude you can learn more than you expect in toastmasters. R is responsibility. Be responsible is every member’s duty. Just like our present club’s slogan. “When in toastmasters, do as the toastmasters do.” No matter you are a speaker, session master, even you are a club officer, you have the responsibility to fulfill your job. Then you can run a smooth meeting or can lead our club successfully. So having responsibility is the basic sense you need. L is learning. Every month we only have four hours meeting time to learn. Because time is limited, so we have to learn fast. We spend the same time in toastmasters, some members you can feel he is progress, he deliver his speech better and better, but some members do not. Why they have differences? Learning speed. E is eagerness. In toastmasters, no matter what you want to get, you must have eagerness. Some members are eager for being a top toastmaster, some members are eager for English improvement, some members are eager for friendship. Everyone might has different reason but you must have the same eagerness. N is no. No what? No doubt. I believe some of you may doubt yourself like “Can I deliver my speech like her?” or “ Can I join the speech contest?” Trust me, you can make it. You have to believe in yourself. In our club, we have many successful example like Jonathan, John, Amanda, Mayna, Keny, Jenny, even me, we are all join the division contest, although we didn’t win in contest, but we are all winners. The last E is explore, you have to discover the charm of toastmaster, do you ever thought about why some members can join it ten to twenty years and never feel tired about it? It’s the magic of toastmaster, you have to motivate your potential, then you will love this place. So let’s review together, if you need to take a note, please go ahead, because I won’t deliver it second time. In my two years toastmaster’s life, I feel my life is colorful and wonderful, of course this sense of achievement is from an amazing girl, who always tell other people that it’s good to be alive, her SOS theory is from love A to Z , she owned a Jau-tsai cat and always says “ Watch out! The sexual harasser is by your side” and she think madam Gin-Sigh is herself, so she let other people know they choose their life not life chooses them, why she believe she can, because she is Darlene.

Title: A Visitor or a Host
Where do you live? Where are you living? Where will you be after tomorrow? (Showing up with projector 1-2) This is the place all of us living in. No matter who are you; rich or poor, intelligent or dumb, white or black, African or Asian, Norwegian or Indonesian, even speak English or not. We are living together in this big house.
Our living place, Earth, is it beautiful? Do you like to live here? What role would you like to play, a visitor or a host? A visitor means that you just come to enjoy, to pleasure, to consume and then go away.
A host also means that to enjoy, to pleasure, but plays more as a provider, cater, giver and investor. The visitor just concern and take pleasure in what he wants right now, no more about the next time or tomorrow, but the host shall take care of his big house and think about the day after tomorrow.
In this 5 hundred million olds planet something is going to change. Do you know what is it the most severe circumstance? I know most of you already have the idea, global warming. Yes it is. Some of Toastmasters fellows had shown up similar topics on their speech in our club before. I’m sure most of you have the basic knowledge connected with this topic. But I would like to remind you again what severe situation we are facing now and offer more evidence and go into a little more detail about it.

There are 4 layers to protect the earth. Ozone layer (the most famous one and almost every one knows it)--It is vitally important to life because it absorbs the harmful ultraviolet (UV) from the Sun. Ozone layer is going thin and disappear---main cause of Global warming.
It has been claimed that the Earth's climate warming is due to the changes in the relative concentration of gases in the atmosphere. The gases involved are: (Showing up with projector 5)
Global Warming is caused by many things. The causes are split up into two groups, man-made or natural causes.
Natural Causes-- One natural cause is a release of methane gas from arctic tundra and wetlands and animal metabolism.
Man-made Causes-- Man-made causes probably do the most damage. Pollution is one of the biggest man-made problems.

Yes, it is our salary.
Why is our money getting smaller? Why we always working overtime and rock our brain, day and night, everyday; and it is still not enough to get a raise from our boss. Why my money ….. Dear members, if you Scream behind your mind, scream it out. I totally understand; I can’t agree it more. We are on the same boat.
The question is how to make money bigger? We often think about how to make additional money or how to save money. Purchase something on sale; keeping account for financial management. Or…. How to be a good teacher?
Two years ago, I became an assistant professor at Kaosuing Medical University. At that time, I was ready to be a researcher because I was trained a lot to do researches. However, I didn’t learn how to be a good teacher for university student. Since then, I kept asking myself: How to be a good teacher. By reading some books, discussing with other experienced teachers, observing from my own classes, and thinking all the time, I find out some ideas. Here, I would like to share with you to share some important ideas.
Firstly, I think the most important thing is to help students develop an interest in the field you teach. You have to love what you do. We all have that kind of experience. If you are interested in something, you can spend a lot of time searching the related information, reading it and learning it. Most important of all, you do it happily. So, I just try to give students the basic knowledge, and tell them how interest this subject is. That’s my first goal.
Secondly, make a free atmosphere for student to ask questions. Encourage them to ask questions, or even force them to ask questions, because every great discovery comes from a good question. For example, do you know who invent airplane? Most of us know Wright brothers did it. But how did they do it? At the very beginning, they just asked a very simple question: Can we human being fly like a bird? Yes, just a simple question. So, the second goal of my teaching is encouraging them to ask questions.
Thirdly, teach them both the ability and the knowledge. Most teachers teach the students “ knowledge”. However, things change very fast in this Age. I told my student all the time “You can’t learn everything from school.” But, you can not tell your boss I didn’t learn it from school, so don’t ask me to do it. So, you need to learn the ability to solve the problem when you face a new challenge. Therefore, I try to teach them how to find the related information, what’s the resources you can find, how to read it and understand it, and finally, how to digest all the information and find out a solution. Maybe I still can’t design the course perfectly. But I do want to teach students the ability. And that’s the third goal of my teaching that I want to share with you.I know I am not a very experienced teacher, but I do hope my student can learn something from me. Today, I am so glad to have this chance to share with you three important goals of my teaching: Help students develop an interest in the field I teach, Make a free atmosphere for them to ask questions, and teach them both the ability and knowledge. Hopefully, those are correct concepts. If you have any suggestions, I will be very happy to have them.

A6 speech（The Speech to Inform）
Title: UV, stop!
*Objective:
1. Select new and useful information for presentation to the audience.
2. Organize the information for easy understandability and retention.
3. Present the information in a way that will help motivate the audience to learn.

When you walk under sunlight without any protection, the UV from sunlight will destroy our skin cells by a chain reaction as the domino show. Day after day, your skin color will become dark, you will have more wrinkles and even more seriously, you may have skin cancer.
(Body)
Does it mean we should stay in the house all the day time? Absolutely not! Part of UV light will trigger some nutrition synthesis in skin, such as Vitamin D. And even if you stay in the house, you still expose to about 50% of UV light.
So what we should do is to put the stopper in the chain reaction! First of all, let's know more about UV light. We can divide UV into three categories, UVA, UVB and UVC. UVC will be absorbed by the ozone layer. And UVA has the weakest energy but will stimulate the production of melanin and tan our skin. The elastin and collagen will lose from your skin after exposing to UVA for a long time. So that you'll have wrinkles and your skin will lose its elasticity. Therefore, UVB will let you get sunburn, stimulate more melanin to produce and dry your skin. So no matter you're male or female, skin protection work is quite important to both of you!
So the targets of sun protection are UVA and UVB. And I will share two strategies with you.
Firstly, choose the right color to wear. According to the research, black clothes will screen out 91% of UV light while white clothes made of the same material will not intercept any UV light. So if you need to walk or drive under sunlight it's better to wear dark color of clothes.
Secondly, apply effective sunscreen. How can you tell effective sunscreen?
1. Read the sun protection label on the production.
SPF means sun protection factor. It's an index of its ability to absorb UVB.
And you can estimate the effective time of the sunscreen by this formula:
The time your skin getting inflamed without any protection × SPF factor
Some people will use fifteen minutes multiply SPF factor as a rough estimation.
PA means Protection Grade of UVA and can represent its ability against UVA.
PA+ means slightly UVA interceptive.
PA++ means medium UVA interceptive.
PA+++ means highly UVA interceptive.
So it'll be better to select PA+++ sunscreen if you need to do outdoor activities.
2. Find the effective composition.
It's the most important point for selecting sun block. There are two major types of the effective compositions.
(1) UV scatter: They will reflect UV, such as TiO2 and ZnO.
(2) UV absorbent: They will absorb UV, such as Cinnamates, Salicylates and Benzophenones.

Title: I believe I can
“ I believe I can fly, I believe I can touch the sky…..” every time when I hear the song, I always feel that belief can make anything possible. Human is the most intelligent and creative animal, so they will create something to help their dreams come true. For example, they want to fly in the sky, they create airplane, for visiting other planet, they create space shuttle. We make everything impossible to possible, do you ever think about why we can make it? I thought about it. Because we have dreams, and we have belief, in order to make our dreams materialized, so we set our goals, and force ourselves to achieve it. And I believe the most pathetic is the one who doesn’t have dream, he even doesn’t have any goal in his life, it’s really waste of time, and even will hurt other people.
Why do I say that? I remember a story, three men lost in the desert, one day when they are walking, they find a magic lamp, so they rub the magic lamp and there comes a genie. He says “ Oh~ thanks for set me free, then each of you can make a wish, then I will make your wish come true.” A says I wish I can have a lot of money and send the money and I back to my country. Then he is gone. B think a while and says I wish I can have many beautiful women and send the women and I back to my country. Then he is also disappeared. “ I believe I can fly, I believe I can touch the sky…..” every time when I hear the song, I always feel that belief can make anything possible. Human is the most intelligent and creative animal, so they will create something to help their dreams come true. For example, they want to fly in the sky, they create airplane, for visiting other planet, they create space shuttle. We make everything impossible to possible, do you ever think about why we can make it? I thought about it. Because we have dreams, and we have belief, in order to make our dreams materialized, so we set our goals, and force ourselves to achieve it. And I believe the most pathetic is the one who doesn’t have dream, he even doesn’t have any goal in his life, it’s really waste of time, and even will hurt other people.

Facts behind the scene
Two weeks ago, one of the most popular news in Taiwan was happened in Lin-Kuo, Taipei County. Eight goats were killed in an animal farm. The first witness, who is a foreign worker of the animal farm, claimed that she saw the murderer. And it was a tiger! Wow! A tiger was wild living in Taipei. All of sudden, Taipei became a safari paradise. The Taipei County magistrate Chou-Shee-Wei went hunting for the tiger with a team. Normally we use powerful weapons such as rifles when go hunting. But according to the press, pistols and wood canes were the most powerful weapons in the team. They didn’t make it for the tiger. So they set up three trap cages. Ladies and gentlemen, I believe nearly everybody has seen trap cages for mouse. Trap cages with roast chickens inside as bates; was it a good idea for tigers?
No, it wasn’t. Tigers didn’t show up eventually. Actually, it was so understandable. Ladies and gentlemen, if you have watched discovery or animal planet channels, you will know what tigers eat. I am not an expert of tigers, but at least I know tigers hunt and eat larger animal such as horses, dears, and cows. Once there’s a tiger that eat roast chicken in the cage and get caught. I guess the other tigers will laugh at the tiger. Eat chicken in the cage and get caught? You lose tigers’ faces.
Instead of tiger, two dogs were caught in the trap cages. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the suspect no. 1, little white. The police accused little white was the murderer of the goats. They said little white was a feral, angry and bloody killer. He killed 8 goats in a night. I really wonder how they know this dog is the murderer. Maybe they have examined the dog already. “Hey, little white, where were you at the night the goats got killed?” “ Bark!” “Oh! Near the animal farm, right!” “Did you kill the goats?” “bark!” “why did you kill the goats?” “bark!” “oh, you were hungry!!!” Obliviously, not too many people believed little white was the murderer. It might because little white got innocent eyes. So the suspect no.2, little black, was considered more like the murderer of the goats. You can see the picture of little black; he doesn’t have the innocent eyes. And he looks angrier and more like bloody killer. Ladies and gentlemen, if you believe that, I will take that as a discrimination of skin color. Because the fact is both little white and black are too small to kill the goats. And little black is a cripple; he got only three legs functional.
It’s been eleven days after the goats got killed. Ladies and gentlemen, have you heard anything about this case from the newspaper, TV or radio news in these two days? I bet you haven’t. Why? I guess it’s not important anymore. This news doesn’t have journalistic value anymore. But the fact is the goats in the animal farm are still under the threat of being killed by other animals. And the owner of the animal farm will be still losing money. Do we really care the death of the goats?
As a matter fact, in November last year, goats in the same animal farm were also killed. Some toxic chemicals like dioxins have been detected from the goats in the same animal farm. According to the report of Department of Heath, the concentration of the dioxins in the goat was over the standard. Fifty goats need to be destroyed according to the food regulations. I know my English is not very good, but is the word ‘destroyed’ the same as ‘killed’ in this case? When dogs killed one goat, it is a murder. And when men destroy 50 goats, it sounds more like a number. Ladies and gentlemen, which one should we really care more? A murder or a number?

2007/06/05 Lillian's C9 Speech
Speech title: Gossip
Speech Project: C9 Persuade with Power
Time limit: 5 to 7 minutes
Can you tell me about this lollipop? It looks Cute? Look delicious? Make you want to try it? I tried it and it taste so bad. Do you believe it? Would you tell other people that it taste bad and don’t buy it? In nowadays, most of people believe what other people say about something or someone. Then pass this information to another people. The easy way to say that is gossip or better way to say it is to card about everything. I believe as a human being, we like to gossip of course I’m one of it. However when the main charter who we gossip on heard it, he or she might be hurt. Then what we get? It will ruin our relationship with each other; and I was one of example.
At high school year, I had a friend call Joyce. Even thought we were not close friends, but we still play together and said hi to each other. Something was change start with a guy call David. David was a transfer student. After him transferred to our school, Joyce kept saying I’m fat. She said “Lillian, you can keep going eating and then you will get fatter and fatter.” “Lillian, why every time I see you, you are eating.” or “Lillian, your stomach getting bigger and bigger, and you still eating.” Basically, I didn’t care, because I knew I’m fat. One day, a friend came over to me and said “Lillian, I think Joyce had quash on David? I even think that she was jealous on you, because you and David were too close. That’s why every time she said you are fat in form of him” I never though Joyce would say those thing for purpose. After that ever time she said that, I felt I was be insult. Then I began to dislike her. Of course after knew she was doing for purpose, I wasn’t talk to her again, didn’t even say hi. Every time when friends talk about Joyce, I would say “I didn’t like her, because she likes to insult me. The reason was because she jealous about me with David…………….” This ever ended until we graduate.
One year after graduate, I found out she and my boyfriend went into the same collage. One day my boyfriend came home and said “Did you know I met Joyce today and did you know what she said about you” I didn’t know what she said to him, but I want to tell him about what she had done to me in the high school. My boyfriend continued “She said, you are a nice girl, but you seems don’t like her. You like to say bad thing behind her back.” Said bad think behind her back. Well~~ I didn’t think I had said bad thing behind her back, beside she was insult me first. By the way I was telling the truth. Then we get into the fight. At the end my boyfriend said “Did you sure about her doing this because of her jealous? Did she have say she had quashed on David to someone else?” Well, I couldn’t answer it. Because everything I knew was heard from a friend, I didn’t ask her and I couldn’t make sure she had say it to other either. So, did she really do it for purpose? I asked myself again. This time I couldn’t answer it, but I know I might be wrong. I felt sorry what I had done to her and lost her as a friend.
My dear members, we always use our sense to believe someone or something, and then make a conclusion. We even believed what we hear form other people, and then add with what we saw. However not everything we saw won’t be true of what it means. Just like my story. Maybe Joyce didn’t mean to insult me. Maybe she tried to remind me not getting fat and to keep in shape. But I choose to believe what my friend said about her. Like this candy, it might looks cute, looks delicious, and makes you believe it will taste goo. However, we have to try it to find out the real answer.
Gossip may not be a bad thing; it was part of our life. It is an entertainment let our life have some fun or a topic for starting a conversation. If you don’t have a guts to ask the main charter for the truth, just shout up then be a listener. Don’t spray out as you mean it. Don’t make yourself as a big mouth person and hurting someone. If you real do it, then you will follow my step.

Since GNP increase our requirement for life quality is going up, 50 years ago people were full-up they feel satisfied, but now people not only require full-up if the food was not delicious they feel unhappy, even some people not only require delicious food they also require healthy food, because our lifespan is getting longer if you were alive but not healthy your life is not happy.
According to medical report, many people suffer from heart disease, and the main reason for getting heart disease is your eating habit you eat too much wrong things. So what is right thing? Some advertisement shows that olive oil can clean your artery heart disease protect your heart prevent. Is it truth? Yes, because it contain rich mono-saturated fatty acid and olive oil divide 4 levels “extra virgin olive oil “virgin olive oil “refined olive oil”pure olive oil” high level one has high nutrition and low level has low nutrition, most of restaurant use this one because is cheap, if you care your health you should choose extra virgin olive oil, cheap products have not good quality.
This recommendation came from advertisement, it’s absolutely right, but every thing has two sides not only has good part company only will tell good part to customer, because they tell you bad part you don’t buy it. Here is a report it shows the bad part, yes mono-saturated fatty acid can clean your artery, but it’s easy to mutate if heat the oil mono-saturated fatty acid will become free radical and then free radical will cause heart disease, when you cook will you heat oil? Yes, so you eat oil to prevent heart disease, bet actually it cause heart diseases. Do you still want to eat olive oil? Don’t worry if you don’t over heat it, it doesn’t oxygenate. Ladies and gentlemen, do you like eating? Yes, most people like eating just a few people they don’t like, but they still have to eat. Tonight I would to share my personal secret for tasting puff with all of you.
There are so many kinds of puffs in our world; I don’t have enough time to introduce them, so I only choose one to introduce to you. This puff is “crispy puff” some people call it “pineapple puff”, all of crispy puff looks alike only two things different, size and filling, any baker he can decide how big his puff is and what filling he want to fill with, some puff fill with whipping cream some fill with custard some taste like mousse some taste like ice cream, this one it taste like ice cream. Before you eat it, firstly you need to prepare some tools, oven tray gloves and tongs, and then we should preheat oven this action can help you to control baking time, if you don’t preheat you need to bake it longer and how much time you should spend? I don’t know that depend on your oven, some oven heat up quickly some ovens are slowly. Put puff on tray after oven is heated put tray in to oven bake for 3 minutes, this action can remake puff crispy, because air contain moisture if you don’t eat puff immediately when it just take out from oven, moisture will soften puff’s crust and then it don’t taste crispy anymore, so we should bake it again. One thing I need to remind you, you must store puff in freezer otherwise the filling’s quality will change.
We have several minutes to wait, so at this period let me tell you some knowledge about puff. Do you know where origin of puff is? France. Do you know how to say puff in French? "chou”. Why does French call it chou? Because chou means cabbage, puff’s appearance look like cabbage, so French call it chou and Japanese they steal word from France therefore Japanese call puff chou cream, why does it call puff in English? Oh…….I don’t know, but I tell you another meaning of this word, it can be a verb means inflation, so I guess maybe the reason is putt can puff up quickly like balloon, you can see inside of puff is empty.

Put puff on tray after oven is heated put tray in to oven bake for 3 minutes, this action can remake puff crispy, because air contain moisture if you don’t eat puff immediately when it just take out from oven, moisture will soften puff’s crust and then it don’t taste crispy anymore, so we should bake it again. One thing I need to remind you, you must store puff in freezer otherwise the filling’s quality will change.
We have several minutes to wait, so at this period let me tell you some knowledge about puff. Do you know where origin of puff is? France. Do you know how to say puff in French? "chou”. Why does French call it chou? Because chou means cabbage, puff’s appearance look like cabbage, so French call it chou and Japanese they steal word from France therefore Japanese call puff chou cream, why does it call puff in English? Oh…….I don’t know, but I tell you another meaning of this word, it can be a verb means inflation, so I guess maybe the reason is putt can puff up quickly like balloon, you can see inside of puff is empty.

Speech title: Lisaness
Speech Project: (C1) Ice Breaker
Time limit: 4 to 6 minutes
This lectern is very familiar to me. Making speech in public is nothing new to me. But, this ice breaking really got me. Not until three days ago, have I started writing this C1 speech. Examine my life, organizing my history and revealing myself to you isn’t an easy job.
Anyway, I still have to do it, right? Well, let me start with my “Lisaness.” As you know, Lisa is my name, and the word ends up with ness is usually a noun. I saw this expression in a comedy called “You me and Dupree.” I thought it was a good way to say someone’s philosophy. So, what’s “Lisaness?” Have you heard of an idiom “Make hay while the sun shines?” That means “Enjoy your life while you still can.” That’s “Lisaness.” Let me tell you about myself, and then you will understand “Lisaness” better. I consider myself a very lucky person. I was born in a happy and normal family. They are very supportive with my decision. My father is a government worker, and my mother is a retired teacher. I have an elder brother who is a professor. But being a teacher used to be the last thing I wanted to do. Back in college, I was crazy for politics and stage play. I remembered once I was dragged for a long way and beaten up by the police in a student protest movement. I still thought I was doing a right thing and I had good time. Anyway, the ridiculous Constitution 100 and 101 have been eliminated and I have become what I am, a teacher.
I graduated from Fu-Jen University. My major was literature. Fourteen years ago, I started my teaching carrier and the school business, just like I said at the beginning. I always enjoy what I am doing. I treasure every moment at the podium and care about my students. That’s why they take my class seriously. My students adore me like a goddess, and the coolest part is the3 unbroken bond between my students and I. The other day, one of my college students asked for my opinions about his future and sex life. I couldn’t help thinking of what he was like when he was a third grader. To sum up, I have talent to catch the student’s attention, and be able to help them. That’s why my school is called the “Magic Lisa.”
Enough for my job, let me tell you some other amazing things. My husband is Japanese. I never expected to marry to a foreigner. I am someone who has too strong Taiwan awareness. I only like to use things made in Taiwan. However, things just happened. We fell in love at the first sight. We have been married for ten years. He can speak fluent Chinese and Taiwanese, but I cannot speak even one word of Japanese, though. However, my husband cannot agree more with my “Lisaness.” We share the same attitude toward life. We don’t want to grow old together. Instead, we both want to stay young forever. We also enjoy everything related to beauty. I am into interior designing, and he happened to be a handy person. Five years ago, the TV show, “生活智慧王” came to our home. It was quite an honor. My husband and I are family type people. Meanwhile, we never give up our crazy night life.
I am 36 years old. The age is never a taboo for me. I think if someone has confidence, it won’t be too late to fulfill anything. I joined a bikini contest three years ago. The rest of the contestants were at least 10 years younger. I still won the Championship in the end. I didn’t let my age to stop me. That’s “Lisaness.” I have two sons. One is a third grader and the other is a second grader. The older looks exactly like my husband, and I see myself in the younger one. They are growing up everyday. We are going to encounter different problems at different stage. But, one thing I can be sure is my love toward them and I will never change my “Lisaness.”

Before Wright brothers invented airplane “flight” was a dream for human being, no body can fly only bird can fly. Before Armstrong stepped on moon “go to space” was a fable, no body can do it only god can. Scientists, I respect you so much, because of you our dream came true fable became reality, human being is more powerful human being is more like a god.
Ladies and gentlemen do you how many benefits you get from technology? If scientist didn’t invent car and you wand to visit Taipei so you only can go there by walking or horse riding you might spend one month or more no transportation, that was so inconvenience. But now only several hours or lease one hour. Since technology develop well our life become convenience become more vivid we can through internet to buy any thing we can drive and make phone call in the same time, I know that is dangerous I don’t suggest you to do it, but you know that is convenience, before invented lamp what can we do at night time? Can you live without electronic power? There are too many benefits we get from technology.
But when you enjoy technology have you ever think the bad part of technology? Normally we just enjoy technology forget about the bad effect or even ignore, is it a correct behavior? Absolutely not, for example “air conditioner”, many people sleep not so well without air conditioner especially in summer time, because weather is too hot, but what makes weather so hot? It is Car and air conditioner. Because car and air conditioner produce badly air it destroy ozonosphere and then sun light shine on earth heat up weather. It is ridiculous, air conditioner make weather cool, but it also the main reason what make weather hot, in future we might can live in moon Jupiter or other planet, because our technology develop sc well we can live anywhere, but why should we move to other planet? Because too much pollution in earth. What pollute earth? It’s technology.
Every thing has too sides, technology can make our life better it also can destroy our life. I believe all of scientists they want to gave us a bright future not take us to darkness, Wright brothers invented airplane for the dream of fright, but airplane became weapon in second world war kill so many people, that is not what they want, is it their mistake? Can we blame them? Of cause not the error should belong to user, because they use it in wrong way. We are all users, my dear friends do you feel that we use technology in wrong way we abuse technology? Yes, I feel. We abuse technology and cause environment’s revenge such as global warming land slide flood or desertification. We are powerful we are like god but nature is real god, we do things in wrong way it will punish us. Dear fellow toastmasters technology is like a sword, it is useful and powerful, if you use it in right way right direction it will bring you a bright future and happiness, but if you use it in wrong direction it will harm yourself you suicide, so be careful control it well.

Title: Organic Foods: To Buy Or Not To Buy? delivered on
*Objective:
1. To learn the value of props in speaking.
2. To learn how to use props effectively in your presentations.
(Opening)
Good evening ladies and gentlemen, before I start my speech, I would like to ask you a question: What does "organic food" mean? Any volunteer? Don’t worry! It is not table topic session. Organic food is a kind of food which grows without the help of chemicals.
(Body)
Some people think that because the organic produce is produced naturally and they won't eat the chemical substance such as pesticide. Therefore, they think organic produce is healthier than normal produce. When you are in a market, would you like to buy organic foods? Actually, there are many factors may influence your decision to buy or not to buy organic foods. I did some search to analyze organic foods about nutrition, quality and appearance, pesticides, environmental issues, cost, and taste for your information.
The first one: Nutrition. No conclusive evidence shows that organic food is more nutritious than conventionally grown food. And the United States Department of Agriculture — even though it certifies organic food — doesn't claim that these products are safer or more nutritious.
The second one: Quality and appearance. Organic foods meet the same quality and safety standards as conventional foods. The difference lies in how the food is produced, processed and handled. You may find that organic fruits and vegetables spoil faster because they aren't treated with waxes or preservatives. Expect less-than-perfect appearances in some organic produce such as odd shapes, varying colors and perhaps smaller sizes.
The third one: Pesticides. Conventional growers may use pesticides to protect their crops from mold, insects and diseases. When farmers spray pesticides, this can leave residue on produce. Some people buy organic food to limit their exposure to these residues. Most experts agree, however, that the amount of pesticides found on fruits and vegetables poses a very small health risk, especially if you wash or peel your produce before eating it. And large-scale studies suggest that pesticide residues are unlikely to be an important risk factor for cancer to the general public. In addition, the health benefits of eating fruits and vegetables, regardless of how they're grown, far outweigh any potential health risks.
The fourth one: Environmental issues. Some people buy organic food for environmental reasons. Organic farming practices are designed to benefit the environment by reducing pollution and conserving water and soil.
The fifth one: Cost. Most organic food costs more than conventional food products. Higher prices are due to more-expensive farming practices, tighter government regulations and lower crop yields. Because organic farmers don't use herbicides or pesticides, many management tools that control weeds and pests are labor intensive. For example, organic growers may hand weed vegetables to control weeds, and you may end up paying more for these vegetables.
The last one: Taste. Some people say they can taste the difference between organic and non-organic food. Others say they find no difference. Taste is a subjective and personal consideration, so decide for yourself. But whether you buy organic food or not, finding the freshest foods available may have the biggest impact on taste.

Occasionally speakers must address listeners on a controversial issue or subject, one on which your viewpoint differs. A speech of this type requires sensitivity and tact. Acknowledge your listener’s viewpoint, then present your own and its benefits. Find points of agreement. Illustrate your points with stories and anecdotes, project credibility and use humor. When answering questions, remain calm and answer in a positive manner, concluding with a positive statement.
Ladies and gentlemen good evening we all know that “sun light” “air” and “water” they are three most important elements in this world, we can’t live without them. No sun light plant can’t grow no plant no food no food we will die, no air our lifespan will be shorter then 3 minutes, and then “water” in our body about 60% is water we need water to help us to absorb, digest and improve metabolism, if water is not clean it will give our body some bad effect to cause some damager.
