Fellow Toastmasters Good evening
As many of you know, I like to take photos. Many people ask me why I like photography. Where or when do you learn how to take photos? The camera has all the answers to these questions.
Do you remember a television commercial slogan “Konica color ….it catches me”?
My father’s Konica camera didn’t only capture my childhood memory, but it also leads me into the world of photography.
A few weeks ago, when I was preparing my camera gears I took out my father’s Konica and thought…the last time I used this camera must have been fifteen years ago. It is a manually controlled camera. When you use it, you need to adjust the shutter and aperture by hand. After my father bought an automatic camera, it was left behind in the corner.
I remember when I attended my graduation trip in the elementary school, only a few students brought cameras, and their cameras were automatic. I was the only one who brought a manual camera. When they pressed one bottom and took a shot, I was still adjusting my aperture and focus. It might be slow, but it looked more professional.
After that, I had a hobby that is expensive to maintain---photography. I began to save money to buy photo gears. Finally I bought my first SLR (single lens reflex camera). It changes lens. One of its features is that the lens can be changed, which means I can buy different lens to fit it. Do you think that’s enough for me? Of course not! Now is the digital era, everything becomes digital, and I really want to see my photo within the next second. One year I told my friends, if you worry that you don’t know what a good birthday gift for me is then I would tell you that I need a digital camera. That year, I got a Digital camera.
People’s desire never stops! You get one then you want more. I have a SLR camera and a digital camera! If I have both, it is better! Of course! YES! NOW see my Nikon D70 – digital SLR can change lens with the old one!!!!!
Everything seems perfect!! But can I take good photos by that good camera?
The more photos I take, the more questions I ask from my heart?
A few days ago, I surfed on the Internet and I found a LOGO “LOMO” I had heard that before, what special feature does the camera have? It breaks the rules of photography. LOMO users can take pictures conveniently anytime, anywhere.
When you walk on the street, you find something you like, give it a shot using LOMO. Express your feelings directly! I think that’s whole purpose of photos “to capture memory” for example Wade shared his daughter’s pictures with us. Why? Because he wanted to share his feelings and happiness with us so he recorded them by using the camera.
Do you like photography? You don’t need to buy an expensive camera; you can also be a good photographer. Capture what you like and seize the moment. Fellow Toastmaster! Say cheese…………

Script sharing-John's C6 speech

Good evening ladies and gentlemen,
How many of you do not have a cell phone? I bet the number is zero because I have checked the roster of our club already. Everybody has a cell phone. At least one! According the government’s statistics, the penetration rate of cell phone in Taiwan is more than 100%, which means there are more than 23 millions cell phones owned by Taiwanese people. And the population in Taiwan is 23 millions. So if you don’t have one, you must be very poor or you must have no friend.
Since everybody has a cell phone. Have you had the experience that your cell phone ringed at some important occasions which the phone wasn’t allowed to ring? (ring……..). Like ringing during a toastmaster meeting? Or you cell phone ringed at some romantic occasions like when you’re dating? I had an awful experience that a cell phone call ruined the mood of a romantic date.
One of my ex-girlfriends, let me just call her sara. Sara was so suspicious; she liked to track me by cell phone ten times a day; she didn’t trust me at all. You know, when there is no trust in a relationship, the relationship will inevitably be failed eventually. It’s a pity that sara didn’t trust me in the relationship, but in the other hand, she’s very right. One day, when I was dating another girl, sara called me. Normally I would turn my cell phone into vibration mode when I was dating another girl. Once sara called me, I could pretend nothing happened and went to the rest room to pick up the phone. But I was driving at that time and I forgot to turn the cell into vibration mode. So when I saw the name on the screen of my cell phone, I was soon in a dilemma. Should I answered the call from my girlfriend in front of another cute girl I dated, or just kept the phone ringing? I decided to pick up the phone only after 5 seconds because I wanted to be a real man. “where are you honey?” “ I am driving on the road”. You know what, sara is a real woman so she noticed that my tone was a little bit strange on the phone. “ you’re driving honey…….alone?” “no, with a friend…coworker actually….”. “a friend……..male or female?” she knew it! She knew it! I was so panic at that time……”hmm…erh…female. But you know what; the weather is really nice today…” I tried to change the topic. And it didn’t work! However, sara was a smart and mature girl, most important of all, she’s so understanding. So she didn’t keep asking me about the girl for long time. Two minutes after, sara said” okay, since you are driving, I will let you go for the sake of safety.” Woops, what a relief for me! “ but you haven’t said you love me today, say you love me before you go!”. “but I am with a friend…” I tried to explain to sara. “ ho…..I don’t care......come on, say you love me please.” I knew that if I didn’t say it then, I would be a dead man the very next day. “ okay, I love you honey.” And I looked at the girl sitting besides me, she’s having no facial expression. But sara was really happy about what I said. “I love you too john. Give me a kiss and I will hang up the phone.” Oh man…..can you believe that? She left me no choice but giving her a kiss on the phone. After I kissed sara on the phone, she hung up the phone, very satisfied.
You might be curious about what happened in my car after the conversation. It was silent and the air was freeze in my car. But I had to keep driving and pretend nothing happened. I hadn’t talked to her until we were close to her house. I pulled my car over in front of her house. When I was trying to kiss her and say good bye, eventually she said something. She said huh to me and gave a big slap on my face and then left my car. I haven’t talked to her or seen her since that day.
Fellow toastmasters, they said ‘no pain, no gain.’ that’s right! High technology like the use of cell phones shortens the distance between people, but it doesn’t turn every thing into good direction. Since I had been suffering from the painful experience, I did learn some lessons from it. Lesson one, we should all support the government policy- don’t use the cell phone when you are driving. It’s dangerous! Lesson two, if you insist using cell phone when driving, it might cause painful consequences. Lesson three, don’t underestimate women, they are always smarter than men.
