Speech Title: What We Learn from Santa

As Christmas is around the corner, you may be bombarded by all the Christmas carols. Everywhere you go, you can hear “ You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout. I’m telling you why. Santa Claus is coming to town.” “Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock.” “ Walk into the winter wonderland.” Oh, I just LOVE Christmas carols. You know what my favorite Christmas carol is? It’s --Rudolph the red nosed reindeer had a very shiny nose.
Not only is the song very catchy but it’s very inspiring. Rudolph the red nosed reindeer had a very shiny nose. And if you ever saw it, you would even say it glows. All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names. They never let poor Rudolph play in any reindeer games. Then one foggy Christmas Eve Santa came to say Rudolph with your nose so bright won't you guide my sleigh tonight? Then all the reindeer loved him and they shouted out with glee Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer. You'll go down in history! I don’t know about you but I feel I can really relate to this story. When I was a little girl, the kids didn’t like to play with me.(just like Rudolph) Why, not because I had a red nose but because I was dumb and ugly. It’s like they put a spell on me. Actually, I believed what they told me until 13 years ago when I met my prince charming or should I say Santa. Unlike fairy tale, he didn’t kiss me to break the spell. In stead, every day, he would tell me I’m the most beautiful woman and the most intelligent woman in the world. The spell was so bad that it took me one year to buy into his story. Thanks to his encouragement, now I have become a very confident person. We all love Santa for his generosity. He would give presents to good girls and good boys. Actually the best present costs nothing. All you need to do is compliment and encourage people. We can make a positive difference in people’s lives by playing Santa. Next time, when your fellow TM members dress well, you can say to them: “Wow, you dress like a million bucks.” When they give a great speech, do give them generous applause. That’s what we call Christmas spirit.

Darlene's C3 speech~My SOS 2005/11/1

Good evening, lades and gentleman, before I deliver my C3 speech, I would like to ask you some questions. First, do you think I am a confident girl? Second, do you think I am the girl who can date with lots of boys? Third, do you think I am the girl who is lack of sense of security? Yes~ today my topic is “My SOS” the “SOS” is not “Save Our Soul”, and it’s not the Japanese play“Strawberry On the Shortcake” .My SOS is - Sense Of Security . When I heard someone talk about their boy/girlfriend can’t give them a sense of security, I always feel he/she is a stupid one. I think no matter we are alone, or date with someone, even get married, you can’t hand over your sense of security to another person to keep it. Because it’s wrong to do so, you should keep your sense of security by yourself.

Actually, the sense of security is accumulated by our daily life. During our life, we need to continuously flesh our life out, then we can own abundant power and experience. The most stupid person is when they are dating with each other, they only want to limit each other. On their mind, they only can see each other. In fact, you have to let yourself and the other to have some chance to meet different opposite sex people. Why? If the time goes by and you have been get together for a long time, and finally he (she) still choose you to be their mate, that means you are the fantastic person on his (her) mind. Furthermore, if we have perfect abilities and conditions, we won’t afraid our boy (girl) friend will leave us. But if we limit each other’s action, even control his (her) life, maybe now he (she) can be constrained. But if in the future, he (she) meets a better or more suitable person, he (she) might leave you as well. At that time we will become more sad and heart broken, right?

You can think over it…When we speak out that we lack of the sense of security, actually it means we are afraid he (she) will leave us one day? After all, what are we afraid of? Are we afraid he (she) will meet a better person? Are we afraid there is someone more attractive to him (she)? Or we are just afraid of being compared with someone? But if we have the conditions to attract them, why should we need to be afraid? Perhaps some people might think it’s easy to say that. Yes, it is. Tell you the truth, I have been lack of sense of security before. During that time, I was always suspicious of my boyfriend. I checked his cell phone and asked him to tell me wherever he goes. Everyday I was haunted with fear and I was unhappy then. But one day, I straighten out my thinking. And I realize that it’s really useless to think too much, because it doesn’t help anything, you just create trouble for yourself and make you down. So I make my mind, I would rather keep the sense of security by myself than create trouble for myself. So from now on, let’s find our “SOS” back, and what should we do is just “Seeing more, listening more, and learning more”. Let’s accumulate more and more experiences and enhance our abilities and conditions, ok? Don’t be afraid of losing something, sometimes, when you lose something, you get more from losing. So don’t take it too seriously, you can have your own better life.

Ladies and gentlemen, “good evening”. I want to tell you some ideas when I play with horses. The term “horse” has 2 definitions in Chinese. One means girls and the other one means really horses. One has two feet, and the other one has four feet. They’re totally different. I really want to share with you how to play with two feet horses, not tonight though. Ok, I’m just trying to be funny, so I hope that the ladies don’t mind. Why I want to share with you this idea? Because I find the other side of human nature in it. Do you want to know how and what? Please listen up.

It’s spring of 2001. I wasn’t doing well in graduate school. I almost wanted to give up. Until someday my best friend, Ken invited me to go to his horse farm. This is my first time to touch horses. Initially I thought that was very interesting and I could have fun there. Horses are huge and strong animals. They are so independent and smart. I was very excited because everything was interesting and different. But when I sat on the horseback and everything was changed, because I was so nervous. It was so high that I couldn’t think. When the horse started to run, I lost my mind already. If you think learning horseback riding is a piece of cake. You are totally wrong. Actually you have to overcome the test of body and mind. Besides that you also need to know how to control the horses, which means you have to read the horses’ mind and the horses’ language. I remember after I did this exercise for the first time, I almost lost control and I felt so exhausted. And the next day I had trouble getting up. My legs were shaking like leaves that I could barely walk. My back and muscle hurt so badly that I couldn’t move. I have even fallen down from the horseback more than 5 times. (worse than Lin Chih Ling) Still right now I am still scared. But why I don’t give up. Let me share with you another story. I knew a guy whose name is James. He got in a traffic accident in 2000. The doctor told his family that maybe one side of his body will be a paralyzed. When he heard that he almost gave up on himself. But his girlfriend and family don’t give up on him. They always encouraged him, until someday he went to this horse farm. He went there to rehab. The horseback riding can improve the cerebrumplegia or paralysis. I couldn’t believe when he has done some exercises in the horse farm. Ladies and gentlemen, horseback riding can be a tough sport for normal people. How about the sick person who wants to do that? But James never gives up however the physical repair is so difficult. You may wonder how James is doing now. He is getting better thanks to his effort and determination.
(Conclusion)
Life is so changeable. We don’t know what will happen next, or what we will do in the future. From the experience of horseback riding, I learn something about the human relationship and do a good preparation before you want to do something. But that is still not enough, because you also need the will power like James. When I am frustrated or disappointed, I always think about this story. It teaches us that if you can overcome the fears, you can overcome almost everything.
We live in a big world and the horseback riding is a small story. Why do I say that? Because I can see the human nature in this small story. Philosophy exist in many small stories of the world. Someday you will find them when the opportunity knocks on your door. Thank you. Toastmaster.

Give Me Food, or Give Me Death
Speaker: Tina Wen
Ladies and gentlemen, good evening. My name is Tina Wen. I’m twenty- three years old, and just graduated from school. My blood type is A, and my star sign is Cancer. There are four people in my …Come on, you’ll fall asleep if I only tell you my background. So today I’m going to talk about my hobby, it would be much more interesting.
There is a well-known saying said by Patrick Henry who a person fights for the liberty of America. He said, “Give me liberty, or give me death.” But for me, I’ll say, “Give me food, or give me death.” I guess you’ve known what my hobby is. It’s “Eating,” or I’ll say, “Enjoying delicious food.” I was born in a gourmet family. My mother is a good cooker and also a picky eater, of course, I’m of the same blood. Since I was a child, my family members and I often visit places only for their food. And that’s why we’ve been to Tainan so many times. Therefore, things become more interesting if they’re related to food. For example, when I want to chat with my friends, I often choose a restaurant or a coffee shop to be the place because it serves coffee and cakes. When go traveling, I’m often impressed not by the beautiful scenery but the special local food. So it’s no doubt that I’ll learn English better if I can eat something while attending English classes (I think that’s why I join ALE).
I believe that people’s imagination show their interests. Here is a test. I’m going to show some pictures, and you’ll see what kind of things first comes to your mind. The first picture, for me, I think it’s pudding or a chocolate cake with caramel syrup. The second, I think it’s cheese, pearl tea or sponge cakes. Next, they’re two yolks, they’ll taste good if you put them in rice dumplings or moon cakes. The last one, I don’t know what you’re thinking, but I think it’s more like French Bread. Food plays an important role in my life. It’s not only for keeping me alive or stuffing my stomach, but something which makes me happy, releases my pressure or combines my family, dear friends and me together. I hope I’ll have chance to tell you these stories in the following days. And I’ll be glad if you tell me more about delicious food!

Title: The smartest student; the greatest teacher
Your baby is so smart. He is so earlier that he can say thank you or sorry. He is a well-family educated baby. These compliments are so sweet and so comfortable for us.
Baby is the smartest student, or the smartest human being. However, it needs to have the greatest teacher to teach.
A special experience and important lesson happened on me from my daughter.. My daughter, eight months ago, six month old at that time, she was able to sound voice and say pa, We were very happy that she can do that, and is getting loudly day by day. But at the same time, she often sound a very noisy voice we are very familiar with. Who taught her? Until one day. When I opened the door of the bathroom, I know that answer. She imitated the voice. Suddently I know why my daughter is smarter than me. Do you know what? Curioisty. She is curious about everything what she saw, she listened, she touched, she smell. Then she imitated it at will. There is a much stronger desire inside her mind to get knowledge. It is as much as food, game, and love. I were so sorry to her because I offer her not good, unuseful message to imitate.
Right now my daughter she is one and half year old, and she studied and she is able to sit down, climb, ride bicycle, eat food by herself, hold something to stand very well. Now she is still studying walk. Do you figure out one thing? It is also very important.
Yes, she is happy. She is very very happy to study every brand new actions. She did it, and she enjoy. That is another very important thing I ignore for a while.
Don’t say stop Our daughter is very naughty. But you know, it is normal. If she is not naughty, I worry. She likes to adventure, tries new things. Because she is curious.
Because she is naughty to throw toys away, extract toilet tissue out piece by piece. I am angry and sometimes say stop a little loudly, and she shocked, stop action and cry. You know, the shock keeps in her mind. Everytime I say stop, or No, she cries. It is a bad experience for her. I am regret to do that to her. So ladies and gentleman, if the children do something naughty or dangerous, it maybe do something to transfer their attention instead of order or threaten him or her loudly.
I am still a freshman when being a father, no a teacher. However, being her teacher is not only to care about her body requirement, but also provide a healthy, and complete environment to study.

The differences between womem and men
[Beginning]
Culture is the life style.
Tylor, an important figure of anthropology, said culture contain knowledge, belief, art, law, ethic, and customs etc. (et cetera)
All of these are what people do daily. And the most interesting thing is the difference between cultures. Now I want to present this in three aspects: physically, spiritually and material life.
[Body]
Physically
Basically, people are looked quite the same, everyone has one head, body, and a set of limbs. But here is a truth that there are two sorts of people is really different in the world. Those are women and men.
What is the main reason of this truth?
The answer is concealed in the brain.
How we learn things is depending on our structure of brain. And there are many researches are related what difference between women and men’s brain. According the book titled “why men don’t listen and women can’t read maps”.
It explains men and women’s brains have developed specific areas to handle different skills. It depends on different needs.
In the ancient world, men, being responsible for hunting game, needed to develop tactics for organizing the kill and to hone skills for hitting a target. They didn’t need to be good at conversation or sensitive to anyone’s emotional needs, so they never developed strong brain areas for interpersonal skills.
Women, by contrast, needed the capacity for wider fringe vision to monitor their surroundings, the ability to perform several activities in the same time and effective communications skill, because they have to raise the child and takes care the cave when men are hutting outside.
In other word, women are more sensitive than men.
To prove this point of view, I have a story about my friend. One day my friend was angry about her boyfriend and throws books down to the ground and goes away to show her anger. Then her boyfriend just picked up the books for her and said “hey, baby you drop your books” without feeling her anger.
That is the reason why these two brains fight forever.
Ok, It’s about the Physical.
How about spiritual aspect of differences between cultures.
Take the religions as the example. We have learned a lot history about wars of religions. Actually we have the same problem nowadays.
People always argue about what kinds of ceremony to express the love of God should be right.
A friend comes from Bosnia told me that gestures to express respect to God between the Orthodox and the Catholic are really different. If you do the wrong way it would be a big mistake. Let me show you how different they are.
These kinds of little things would be a fuse of the war. Just be careful.
Beside the physical and spiritual aspect of the difference between cultures. The material life also forms a lot cultural difference around our daily life.
What people wear or use or where the people lives represent the status of people.
I think it is because people have the needs to be recognized in the society and it’s the most easy way to recognize a person you don’t know stand before you from how he or she looked.
One of my friends who ever lived in Unity State said there is a street of all the house with grille and another one just besides it, all the house have no grill but the lawn with great care before the house. You just see two streets, two worlds.

These differences seem making a lot mass in the world. From argues of couple to the wars of two religions, also the prejudice in the society.
But it also the reason makes this world so variously and fascinating.
What I want to present here is a simple truth.
Everyone in the world is different. It is a law in this world.

What people wear or use or where the people lives represent the status of people.
I think it is because people have the needs to be recognized in the society and it’s the most easy way to recognize a person you don’t know stand before you from how he or she looked.
One of my friends who ever lived in Unity State said there is a street of all the house with grille and another one just besides it, all the house have no grill but the lawn with great care before the house. You just see two streets, two worlds.

These differences seem making a lot mass in the world. From argues of couple to the wars of two religions, also the prejudice in the society.
But it also the reason makes this world so variously and fascinating.
What I want to present here is a simple truth.
Everyone in the world is different. It is a law in this world.

Origin of disease –Free radical ( c5 speech )
Ladies and gentleman good evening .since our technology has developed quickly, so our lifespan has increased . Would you like to live a long life? I like the idea very much, however if you live longer but your body is not healthy, then it might not worth it . if you can’t eat delicious food or can’t go any where or if you want to work but nobody wants you , in your life only have two things sleeping and eating , so what would you live for ? Perhaps at that time you are waiting for death. Is this life a happy one? I don’t think so. “Life is measured by thought and action, not by time.”
How to live longer and healthy? You must know how to take care your body and prevent disease , so many risk factors will cause disease , among that Free radicals are most important one, because they are the catalyst for many diseases like aging hardened arteries heart disease cerebral stroke cataract emphysema diabetes Alzheimer and cancer, just to name a few! Free radicals are serious because they will destroy resistances of cell , let your body easy to get infection , retard cell regular production, destroy the mitochondrion of cell that will make you tired , produce some bad thing what will cause cancer ,destroy DNA to cause gene mutation , so free radicals are origin of disease .
There are some ways that will increase free radicals in your body, you should avoid.
1 Poor dietary habit : junk food high fat low fiber
2 Dietary pollution : antiseptic flavor antibiotics
3 Environmental pollution : air pollution water pollution
4 Smoking
5 Expose to sunlight : ultraviolet
if you can’t avoid that, so you also can try to replenish some nutrition , for example vitamin C vitamin E and carotenoids- like Beta carotene and Lycopene , these are natural antioxidants which can help you to decrease free radicals .
If you want to keep your body healthy , you should avoid to expose yourself to dangerous place and balance your diet , get enough nutrition , besides that according to research taking hot spring hiking drinking green tea those also can eliminate free radicals. from these knowledge , we know that hiking taking hot spring and drinking green tea talking with friends those are good choices to do in your free time , you should do it often , and the most important thing is that don’t forget to invite me . may you live longer and healthy .

happy 50th meeting! ale max!
fellow toastmasters,
if i didn't get things wrong, tomorrow is the 50 th meeting of ale max. what a wonderful day tomorrow will be!
i will be so fortunate to be able to join 40 out of these 50 ale max meetings. but i know there is one and only one ale max member who hasn't missed any one of ale max meetings. amanda hsu, your hornorable president, is the one! now you guys may know why she's been my idol for such a long time......not only because she's been excellent in delivering speeches but also she's been so dedicating.
as a senior ale max member and former president, i guess i have enough credibility to make some comments on this club. according to my recent observation, the current ale max members are actually better than those two years ago ( of course, you are now better than what you were two years ago.....), no matter in english ability, stage perfomance or confident! that's why we can have high quality meetings all the time. it's we make the meetings great! i think ale max is now " the best club in kaohsiung", which was the goal i set one year ago and now it's true!

Ladies and gentleman “good evening”, last week I had an opportunity to attend a conference, in National Pingtung University of Science and Technology on “respecting life”. The main speaker was Dr. Lee, he comes from department of life science in National Taiwan University. In this meeting, He talked about what the difference is between animal and the world, their life’s origin and the end, and then he asked us the meaning of our life, the things we do as we live and the relationship between human, animal and the world? I know most people have different explaination and idea. A few million years ago, people considered the animal as their food. Then a few thousand years ago, animals were mainly treated as slaves and work for human, Today, however some animals have become our partners, friends, and a part of our family. Why does this relationship change? Tonight I would like to challenge your mind.

It’s only after the conference, I started to think what thing I can do for the world? Our national father initially wanted to be a doctor so he could save people’s life, but he didn’t really think that was enough. He felt that our country had certain imperfections. Therefore he decided that a revolution was the only way to save the country and its people. Why he does that, he knows people and country need him. I don’t think I can save anyone, but I do know what I can help people to better take care of their pet, and promote the concept so more people would respect the life of animal. If you ask me why I make this decision, my answer will be : yes. I just know that they need me.
Chinese culture came from feudalism into democracy because it’s the trend of the world. The thought of animals changed from human food to become our partners, friends, and the family today. That’s also the trend of the world. In the other modern countries, like America and Canada, and in Europe pets are looked after like human beings. Why do they do that? Because they know this is necessary, they love them.
Why does the animal need our respect? Because people will change their mind progressively. Some dogs can help people and save people’s life, just like a guide dog for a blind person, I know a story about a dog jump into the fired house to save his owner. So, do you believe that?
Ok!! Formerly, the men are more important than women, but now both of them are equally important. So maybe the animal and human will have equal rights in the future. So believe that.

In Taiwan, respecting the life of animal is not an easy thing to do, but more and more people will face to this topic, more and more people are already doing that by themselves. In 1999, the law on animal protection was enforced to become a part of the legislation. This is a good news for both the animal and human. Give you a question: In interpersonal relationship, what do you think when you will become Amanda? And From the world’s view, what do you think when you will become a dog? This means you don’t really care about what I say but how I say it. If I ask you to close your eyes, half of the people will be distracked and get lost. If I don’t sound good enough, most people will fall asleep. But what does “sounds good” mean? For example Mayna comes to John and says, John, let’s have a party at your house. John replies “sounds good”, and Maxwell replies “sounds good”. Which one sounds better? Different voice expresses different emotion and personality. What kind of voice do you have?

Actually, everyone’s voice is unique and hard to change. Some people don’t like their voice that much including me. My major in the university was Japanese but afterwards I figured out Japanese is just not for my voice. (Japanese demo) Come on! It’s not me. Therefore, the very first no no is don’t ever never imitate. As I mentioned earlier, everyone is unique as your voice. If you force yourself to be someone else, you will never be a successful speaker.
But how can we improve our voice? Here are some tips for you.
Relax - You have to relax your mind, your body, then the vocal cord. You have to relax then you can breathe smoothly and naturally. Believe me. If you are nervous, your listeners will be affected and start worrying for you. It will be too exciting especially if someone has heart disease.
Clear – A clear voice means two ways. Clear enough to be heard and clear enough to be understood. Maybe you don’t have a beautiful voice, but make sure your voice is loud enough to be heard. It’s not easy to improve the pronunciation but practice makes perfect. You can try to record your speech, find out the weakness and improve it. Day by day, you will sound like a native speaker one day. (if you try really really really hard)
Cadence which means the rise and fall of the voice. It expresses the flow of your emotion. If your voice is flat and lacks of rhyme, trust me, it can be really annoying. (you know what I mean…)
(Conclusion)
The last but not the least is the attitude. No matter you are talking to a person or a group, deliver it not just say it. An attractive voice is which can express what you think and create an image for the listeners. That requires the accumulation of experience in daily life. Be passionate about what you say and it’s the best way to communicate.
Remember! Silence says more. If you don’t want to say it, then don’t say it. If you have to say it, say it from your heart. Voice is not only the vibration in the air but between you and your listener.

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, I am Darlene. It’s good to be alive. Why did I choose this topic? Because just a few weeks ago, I was chatting with my net friend on MSN. And his code is “it’s good to be alive”. I was so curious so I asked him why ? He told me that one month ago he had had a car accident. When he was driving on the highway, there was a car speed up and bumped his car from the left, then his car spun three rounds. At that moment, it’s totally empty in his mind, he knew he couldn’t breathe but he was still conscious. After that, he didn’t remember anything, he just kept seeing three flashes of white light. He didn’t know the light is God’s call or just the operating lamp. I was so shocked and asked him, “ if you injured so bad, why could I still talk to you now?” He said “ Because when I lied on the operating table, I kept reminding myself, I am only thirty years old, and I didn’t get married yet, so no matter what, I have to take one more breath.” So this will support me to survive again. Now I cherish my life very much, because it’s really good to be alive.

His words recalls me about my friend’s father. He was paralysed last year. And he was a soldier, so he is very majestic. But after he paralysed, he can’t move his left side of body, so he felt he has no majesty, and then he refused to receive rehabilitation treatment. One day my friend and I go to hospital to visit her father. Her elder sister also came to see him. She is pregnant and will have childbirth at the end of the year, so she tell her father that” I will deliver a baby soon, if you don’t receive rehabilitation treatment, you won’t be able to hug your grandson. So dear father you have to rehabilitate” And my friend also encouraged her father to receive the treatment, cause my friend would get married next month, so she says” father, I will get married next month and you are the wedding host. I already print my wedding invitation. So you have to recuperate as soon as possible” But the most touching thing is I heard my friend’s mother talk to her husband that” I don’t feel tired or toilsome even though I have to massage your body everyday. But you promise you will accompany me until we pass away, and you also say you want to hug your grandchild, how can you break your commitment?” Although my friend’s father didn’t say a word, he still drops his tears and started to receive the rehabilitation treatment. And now he can walk with crutch.

I think everybody exists in this world is because you have hope. In your life you always have something you want to do but not doing yet. And only hope can support us to face any difficulty even death. People say when you are dying, everything happens in your life would like a movie scene appears in front of you, and you will think you have something you are not doing yet, so I hope everybody can cherish your life, don’t take your life no matter what. For example, like commit suicide. It’s the most stupid and irresponsible behavior. So just like my motto” Seize the moment, don’t regret” So if you want to do something, just do it now, because it’s really good to be alive and only you are alive, you can materialize your dreams.

As many of you know, I like to take photos. Many people ask me why I like photography. Where or when do you learn how to take photos? The camera has all the answers to these questions.
Do you remember a television commercial slogan “Konica color ….it catches me”?
My father’s Konica camera didn’t only capture my childhood memory, but it also leads me into the world of photography.
A few weeks ago, when I was preparing my camera gears I took out my father’s Konica and thought…the last time I used this camera must have been fifteen years ago. It is a manually controlled camera. When you use it, you need to adjust the shutter and aperture by hand. After my father bought an automatic camera, it was left behind in the corner.
I remember when I attended my graduation trip in the elementary school, only a few students brought cameras, and their cameras were automatic. I was the only one who brought a manual camera. When they pressed one bottom and took a shot, I was still adjusting my aperture and focus. It might be slow, but it looked more professional.
After that, I had a hobby that is expensive to maintain---photography. I began to save money to buy photo gears. Finally I bought my first SLR (single lens reflex camera). It changes lens. One of its features is that the lens can be changed, which means I can buy different lens to fit it. Do you think that’s enough for me? Of course not! Now is the digital era, everything becomes digital, and I really want to see my photo within the next second. One year I told my friends, if you worry that you don’t know what a good birthday gift for me is then I would tell you that I need a digital camera. That year, I got a Digital camera.
People’s desire never stops! You get one then you want more. I have a SLR camera and a digital camera! If I have both, it is better! Of course! YES! NOW see my Nikon D70 – digital SLR can change lens with the old one!!!!!
Everything seems perfect!! But can I take good photos by that good camera?
The more photos I take, the more questions I ask from my heart?
A few days ago, I surfed on the Internet and I found a LOGO “LOMO” I had heard that before, what special feature does the camera have? It breaks the rules of photography. LOMO users can take pictures conveniently anytime, anywhere.
When you walk on the street, you find something you like, give it a shot using LOMO. Express your feelings directly! I think that’s whole purpose of photos “to capture memory” for example Wade shared his daughter’s pictures with us. Why? Because he wanted to share his feelings and happiness with us so he recorded them by using the camera.
Do you like photography? You don’t need to buy an expensive camera; you can also be a good photographer. Capture what you like and seize the moment. Fellow Toastmaster! Say cheese…………

I remember when I attended my graduation trip in the elementary school, only a few students brought cameras, and their cameras were automatic. I was the only one who brought a manual camera. When they pressed one bottom and took a shot, I was still adjusting my aperture and focus. It might be slow, but it looked more professional.
After that, I had a hobby that is expensive to maintain---photography. I began to save money to buy photo gears. Finally I bought my first SLR (single lens reflex camera). It changes lens. One of its features is that the lens can be changed, which means I can buy different lens to fit it. Do you think that’s enough for me? Of course not! Now is the digital era, everything becomes digital, and I really want to see my photo within the next second. One year I told my friends, if you worry that you don’t know what a good birthday gift for me is then I would tell you that I need a digital camera. That year, I got a Digital camera.
People’s desire never stops! You get one then you want more. I have a SLR camera and a digital camera! If I have both, it is better! Of course! YES! NOW see my Nikon D70 – digital SLR can change lens with the old one!!!!!
Everything seems perfect!! But can I take good photos by that good camera?
The more photos I take, the more questions I ask from my heart?
A few days ago, I surfed on the Internet and I found a LOGO “LOMO” I had heard that before, what special feature does the camera have? It breaks the rules of photography. LOMO users can take pictures conveniently anytime, anywhere.
When you walk on the street, you find something you like, give it a shot using LOMO. Express your feelings directly! I think that’s whole purpose of photos “to capture memory” for example Wade shared his daughter’s pictures with us. Why? Because he wanted to share his feelings and happiness with us so he recorded them by using the camera.
Do you like photography? You don’t need to buy an expensive camera; you can also be a good photographer. Capture what you like and seize the moment. Fellow Toastmaster! Say cheese…………

Good evening ladies and gentlemen,
How many of you do not have a cell phone? I bet the number is zero because I have checked the roster of our club already. Everybody has a cell phone. At least one! According the government’s statistics, the penetration rate of cell phone in Taiwan is more than 100%, which means there are more than 23 millions cell phones owned by Taiwanese people. And the population in Taiwan is 23 millions. So if you don’t have one, you must be very poor or you must have no friend.
Since everybody has a cell phone. Have you had the experience that your cell phone ringed at some important occasions which the phone wasn’t allowed to ring? (ring……..). Like ringing during a toastmaster meeting? Or you cell phone ringed at some romantic occasions like when you’re dating? I had an awful experience that a cell phone call ruined the mood of a romantic date.
One of my ex-girlfriends, let me just call her sara. Sara was so suspicious; she liked to track me by cell phone ten times a day; she didn’t trust me at all. You know, when there is no trust in a relationship, the relationship will inevitably be failed eventually. It’s a pity that sara didn’t trust me in the relationship, but in the other hand, she’s very right. One day, when I was dating another girl, sara called me. Normally I would turn my cell phone into vibration mode when I was dating another girl. Once sara called me, I could pretend nothing happened and went to the rest room to pick up the phone. But I was driving at that time and I forgot to turn the cell into vibration mode. So when I saw the name on the screen of my cell phone, I was soon in a dilemma. Should I answered the call from my girlfriend in front of another cute girl I dated, or just kept the phone ringing? I decided to pick up the phone only after 5 seconds because I wanted to be a real man. “where are you honey?” “ I am driving on the road”. You know what, sara is a real woman so she noticed that my tone was a little bit strange on the phone. “ you’re driving honey…….alone?” “no, with a friend…coworker actually….”. “a friend……..male or female?” she knew it! She knew it! I was so panic at that time……”hmm…erh…female. But you know what; the weather is really nice today…” I tried to change the topic. And it didn’t work! However, sara was a smart and mature girl, most important of all, she’s so understanding. So she didn’t keep asking me about the girl for long time. Two minutes after, sara said” okay, since you are driving, I will let you go for the sake of safety.” Woops, what a relief for me! “ but you haven’t said you love me today, say you love me before you go!”. “but I am with a friend…” I tried to explain to sara. “ ho…..I don’t care......come on, say you love me please.” I knew that if I didn’t say it then, I would be a dead man the very next day. “ okay, I love you honey.” And I looked at the girl sitting besides me, she’s having no facial expression. But sara was really happy about what I said. “I love you too john. Give me a kiss and I will hang up the phone.” Oh man…..can you believe that? She left me no choice but giving her a kiss on the phone. After I kissed sara on the phone, she hung up the phone, very satisfied.
You might be curious about what happened in my car after the conversation. It was silent and the air was freeze in my car. But I had to keep driving and pretend nothing happened. I hadn’t talked to her until we were close to her house. I pulled my car over in front of her house. When I was trying to kiss her and say good bye, eventually she said something. She said huh to me and gave a big slap on my face and then left my car. I haven’t talked to her or seen her since that day.
Fellow toastmasters, they said ‘no pain, no gain.’ that’s right! High technology like the use of cell phones shortens the distance between people, but it doesn’t turn every thing into good direction. Since I had been suffering from the painful experience, I did learn some lessons from it. Lesson one, we should all support the government policy- don’t use the cell phone when you are driving. It’s dangerous! Lesson two, if you insist using cell phone when driving, it might cause painful consequences. Lesson three, don’t underestimate women, they are always smarter than men.

Good afternoon!
hello! guys! it's good to see everybody in the meetings...I felt like everybody is improving a lot...hehe...also I felt like something is changing in our meeting...I don't know what but just got the feeling...maybe because the venue is changed...so... One day I was talking to my most beloved coworker- Pei-ling. I told her that I was having a classical music club. And she said she didn’t realize I had a passion for music. She thought I only had passion for men. Yeah, she was right to some extend. I love men. English men, French men, German men and Chinese men…..
In ALE, we always say “Learn Through Experience”. But for me, it’s more like-“Learn Through Men.” Now let me share some stories with you.
One day, I was on a date with an English man. Our meeting place was at the first floor of a hotel. Twenty minutes after our meeting time, I started to look all over for him. Just then, he walked down stairs and asked me: My God! What are you doing at the ground floor?” This English man-Bert who was very English. He once said: “French men are all dirty bastards. That’s why they invented perfume.” He was the most generous person I’ve ever met. He tipped every one who served him, including the fruit stall clerks, gas station attendants, Betel Nut Girls. He would buy a bottle of BaoLi Da B everyday - just to get a sexy smile from the scantily clad betel nut girls. He even forced to give me 10,000 on our second date. I didn’t want to take it cuz I thought he wanted to give me £10,000. It turned out I overestimate his generosity. It’s NT10,000 he talked about. You may wonder if I took the money or not. Yes, I did. You know what they say: “Something is better than nothing.”
I once had a gorgeous date who was from Ukrain, Russia. So when we went to a party everyone turned their heads to see this gorgeous man I had in my arms. All the ladies came and asked me where I picked up this man. Gee! He’s more beautiful than any Hollywood movie stars. Although they didn’t say it, I knew what they really meant was “Mayna, you are not good enough for him”. At the end of the party, he whispered to me and said two girls at the party gave him their phone numbers. He went on to say actually his record was getting 5 numbers one night. “Three from women and two from men.” So I’ve learned not to date a guy who is more beautiful than me.
Before ALE, I used to teach at a kid’s school. One day, my first grader, Johnny came to me and said: “Teacher, you beautiful!” I of course replied: “Thank you!” Actually, what I really meant was: “This monkey boy has got great taste.” Just then he showed an hourglass shape gesture. You know what they say: “Boys will always be boys.” Talking about horny boys. My former date-Martin surely took the cake. I remember quite clearly our first date. He was driving me to dine at a restaurant. He had his left hand on the wheel, and the right hand on my laps. And he said: Mayna, next time when we go on a date, would you please wear a mini skirt? That’d make my job easier. I replied: “Martin, I’m afraid you park your hand at the wrong place, cuz I don’t have the right legs for a mini skirt.” So after this date, I’ve learned not to date a horny guy who expects me to wear a mini skirt for him.
One more story for the road. Three years ago, I had a European boyfriend whose name was Tom. This guy was handsome, intelligent and sensitive, except … he was very bossy. At that time, I had just started out in ALE. He’d be upset if I had to work on the week day evenings and weekends, which I was required to. Once we had a fight, he asked me: “Which one is more important to you, me or ALE?” Without hesitation, I replied: “I’ll give you a hint: It’s not you.” So finally when he proposed to me I had to let him down cuz I can’t stand someone who’s bossier than I am.
Just last week, my friend Athena asked me: What’s your Mr. Right like? And I told her all the stories I told you just now. As long as he doesn’t spend money like his pocket is on fire i.e. Bert. Or as horny as Martin, gorgeous as the Russian guy or as bossy as Tom. Athena went on to say: Is that all you want? It shouldn’t be hard to find a guy for you cuz you’re sexy, smart and funny. Finally, I said: OK He also needs to be sexy, intelligent, sensitive, mature, independent, masculine and thoughtful. Then she said: Now I finally understand why you are still single. Maybe I should change the title of this speech to “ Why Can’t Mayna Get A Man.” Do you all agree? Yeah. I can’t agree more.

When you heard or saw this word “gift”, what do you feel?
Exciting, romantic, or just crazy on it?
Than, what words do you think would connect with it? Happy Birthday, Christmas, chocolates or flowers.
Moreover, are you intended a giver or the opposite of as a receiver? Exactly, It’s hard to get answer. Sometimes we would like to give and sometimes we really enjoy taking. The experience of received and giving a gift I had before has been really caused my life mush more exciting. I would like to share with you

At first, I would like to start from the experience of received a gift.
Do you know what is it? Is it like a teacher’s pointer? In Taiwan, we may say “teacher’s regulator.” Exactly, it is a chopstick and a gift gave by my grandpa. I know some of you are now little confusing about it why It’s not a pair one and so big. Let me share you what I had gotten from my grandpa when I was a kid.
My grandpa was a village head and earned the respect of his villager. In addition, he was a well-known carpenter. He made this big chopstick and gave it to me on my birthday of 13 year’s old. My brother got another one. My grandpa had enclosed three advices together for us with this gift.
The first, He asked us always think about what does the “giant” do. This chopstick was to help us to stimulate ours memories. Therefore, it’s so big because it was designed for a giant. The second, he said that we must always work together with, to reach our goal together; a chopstick cannot work alone. That was the reason why my grandpa just gave us only one of it not a pair. He emphasized to work with others is not only the sibling in family, but also the others out side, and do not forget sometime we need other’s help; also sometimes, we shall give a hand to others.
The third, It’s a regulator and unique for me, until I was over 18 years old. The reason is I was not a good boy at that time. My brother and sister were often provoked to my bad behavior. During that period of time, 13 to 18, I had learned a lot from my grandpa. It’s mean that I had gotten a lot of punishment. Even though, times flying but I still hold it as a treasure. If I faced a difficulty or rough going to do, I usually took this to evoke the memory of my grandpa’s words. But it’s not often, instead of, I use it to my son. My son always gets more words than his father did from his grandpa. Good luck of my son.
Continuing, I am going to share you the other experience of gift giving. It was 13 years ago; I was a products engineer of a speaker factory. A day, when I leaved office, I saw a woman who was sobbing in the security guard booth. I knew this woman because she just asked me how to correct the wrong procedure in the morning. After asked the guard, I knew that she was caught by taking out a mini-stereo radio with out promise. She was in a big trouble. She may get fire from this. I told the guard let me to deal with it and took her back to my office. The woman was divorced and has a 10 years girl. She really wants a radio for her girl at Christmas. Therefore, when she saw that nice radio lay on the table seemed somebody forgot it; she was greedy for it. I told her that the radio is a sample use to test the speaker and let her know how serious she had made. And than I let her go and no body knows this except the guard. Next day I asked a new one from the company for her girl as the Christmas gift. It’s over 13 years; I still received her card every Christmas.
(CONCLUSION)
In practice, do not care about what role you are and like to be to a “gift” giver or a receiver, the most important is that why you do it, what benefit you want to give and to receive. Even if the gift is a falling down from the heaven and you think is a treasure to you. Ok! It’s good to take it; no one would care about it.
