C1 speech(The Ice Breaker, 4 to 6 minutes) by Mayna
Title: Me,Myself and Mayna delivered on 2004/10/19 AMTC

What’s my name? (Audience say ”Mayna” .) A lot of people think my English name is very unique. After all, how many Maynas do you know? For your information, my English name is from my Chinese name. So can you guess what my Chinese name is? Yeah, it’s May Na. My family calls me Ah Na. (Ah counter, please don’t count this Ah.) My childhood nickname was Ah Bie, which means Little Ugly Duckling, just like Connie, except I never became a swan. When I was in high school, my classmates called me Princess Mayna. Why? Because they thought my name was very exotic, just like an English name. Therefore, I gave myself this English name-Mayna. It’s very special, just like me. At least my mother thinks so.

So would you like to know what I do for fun?
1) I shop till I drop. My record was maxxing out three credit cards in one month. My ex boyfriend even called me Lady Imeda, the lady with one thousand pairs of shoes. That’s not fair to compare we both cuz I only have 50 pairs of shoes, including these ones. I believe those who say money can’t buy happiness are those who don’t know where to shop.

2) I love reading and studying. I was such a big bookworm when I was a little Mayna. When I was young, I would spend most of my break time in the library while most of the other kids hung out at the gym. The kids hated me. Not only because I was a nerd but also because I was a giga smart ass. Once in the social science class, the teacher asked us: Does anyone know in what year America became independent? I raised my hand and said: “Me, me, me I know the answer. In the year 1776 and I also know French revolution happened in 1789.” Would you hate it if we had this kind of members? My Mom loved me for my being a bookworm though. She would bribe me with 50 NT to get me keep the perfect score. So that she could brag to our relatives how smart her little Mayna was. So the moral of this story is: 小時了了

3) I’m a big fan of music. I love classical music. Sometimes I feel sorry for my neighbors as I like to pump it up when I listen to classical music. As some of you may already know, I used to host a radio show. My coworker Tony once heard me on the air and he said to me “Mayna, I didn’t realize you’ve got such a nice voice.” So, would you like to hear me sing unplugged? You better say yes. Only you have the power to lure me. (Super Star) Midnight, not a sound from the pavement. (Cats), Love me, that’s all I ask of you. (Phantom of the Opera.) Now you know Tony was an ass kisser.

I have a passion for foreign languages. Aside from English, I also speak French, German and Spanish. Do you want me to prove it? French: Vou La Vous dance avec moi cest soir? German: Mouste Du Danse Mit Mir Heute Abend? Spanish: Te Gou se dei liea bela Con migo? Werner, do you know what I just said? No, not tonight. Now you know I’m an equal opportunity heart breaker.

How to quote famous sayings?

In writing, we often cite celebrity’s words, proverb and idiom to emphasize our perception for the beginning of an essay, wrap-ups, or use them to describe our feelings. How do we quote those famous sayings? Here are some examples for your reference.

1. As the English proverb says, “Take care the pence and the pounds will take care of themselves.”
2. As Abraham Lincoln said, “ You can take in all people part of time; and you can take in some people all the time; but you cannot take in all the people all the time.”
3. As the old saying goes, “ All work and no play make Jack a dull boy.”
4. As Pope said, “ A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.”
5. Rome was not built in a day, so the saying goes.
6.”Lost time never returns, “ so says the English proverb.
7.There is the famous saying: “Good health is the best wealth.”
8. As far as I know, “Example is better than precept.”
9.In my opinion, “There is no royal road to learning.”
10.Where there is a will, there is a way; that is, when we are determined to do a thing, however difficult it may be, we should find a way to do it.
11.Time and tide wait for no man; that is, you should prize (your time).
12.”Honesty is the best policy” is a common saying.
13.The Chinese saying “Time is gold.” Tells us how precious time is.
14.The proverb “Knowledge is power” should always be kept in mind.
15.We should take as our motto, “Do it now!”
16.You should take as your motto, “No pains, no gains.”

Sometimes it’s good to memorize some famous quotes because it can help you to create a flowery essay, and I hope these samples can help your writing.
