Speech project: The Touching Story (A5)

Speech title: The Most Important Thing in Life

Time limit: 6 to 8 minutes

What is the most important thing in your life? Is it money? Work? Family? Friendship? Relationship? Ladies and gentlemen, tonight I am going to tell you a story about a young man learns what the most important thing is in life from an old man next door. You will find the most important thing in your life is always with you.


Jack was a young man who worked in Wall Street, New York. He was as ambitious as the other people in finance business, trying to make a big fortune from the richest place in the world. Like most of office workers in Wall Street, he devoted himself to his job. He worked twelve hours a day. So Jack had very little time to think about the past and often no time to spend with his wife and son. He was working on his future, and nothing could stop him.
Tom Hagen was an old man who lived next door to Jack when he was a child. Tom had no child and his wife passed away. He had taken care of Jack since Jack’s father died when Jack was 7. Tom stepped in to make sure Jack had a man’s influence in his childhood because the rest of Jack’s family members were all female, his mother and two sisters. Jack had spent a lot of time in Tom’s house in his childhood. They played together and Tom taught Jack lessons in life.
It’d been years since Jack had seen Tom. One day, Jack received a phone call from his mother. Over the phone, his mother told him, "Mr. Tom Hagen died last night. The funeral is on Wednesday." Suddenly, all the memories flashed through his mind like an old silent movie as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days.

And his mother kept saying” Mr. Hagen didn't forget you. Every time I saw him he would ask how you were doing. He liked to talk about the time you spent in his house when you were a child.”
"I wouldn't be in this business if he’s not there. He spent a lot of time teaching me things he thought were important...Mom, I'll be there for the funeral," Jack said.

Jack caught the next flight to his hometown. Tom's funeral was small and peace. Only a few people were there.

The night before he had to return home, Jack decided to see Tom’s house one more time with his mother.

Standing in the house, Jack paused for a moment. It was like crossing over into another dimension, a leap through space and time. The house was exactly as he remembered. Every little thing held Jack’s memories……Suddenly, Jack stopped.

"What's wrong, Jack?" his Mom asked.

"The box is gone," he said.

"What box?” his Mom asked.

"There was a small box on the top of Tom’s desk. I must have asked him a thousand times what was inside. And he always told me it was the thing most important to him.” Jack said.

It was gone. Everything was there in the same place except the box!

"Now I'll never know what was so valuable and important to him," Jack said. He went home disappointedly and caught an early flight to New York the next day.

Jack took a taxi to his office right after his airplane arrived at New York. Jack thought he had spent a lot of time in his hometown; there must be a lot of things to do in the office. When he got in the office, he saw a small package on his desk. The package was packed like it had been wrapped up for a hundred years. Jack opened the package; it was the box and a note. Tom Hagen mailed the box to Jack two days before he died! He knew he was dying! Jack took the note with his trembling hand and it read” Jack, this is the thing I value most and most important in my life”. It took his breathe away after reading the note. Then he opened the box and found a valuable watch and another note. The note read” Jack, thanks for your time—Tom Hagen”. At the moment, Jack realized the whole thing. “The most important thing in his life…..was….my time!”

Jack held the watch for a few minutes, then walked out his office and cleared his meetings for the next two days. "Why?" Jessie, his secretary asked. "I need some time to spend with my wife and son," Jack said. "Oh, by the way, Jessie...thanks for your time!"

Ladies and gentlemen, "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away,"

Time has a way of getting away from all of us...TAKE THE TIME...NOW.

Time: Five to seven minutes

What is vivid life? Ladies and gentleman, we wake up in the morning eating working and then sleep at night we repeat such life date by date, gradually our life become uninteresting we lose our energy feel so tired every day. Our staffs are same with us if they do work without energy no desire to take challenge, will our company be better? Could our business reach to another peak? The answer should be no, so as a good company we shouldn’t only think about how to push them, we should think about how to offer them a good work environment how to give them a good quality life. New Year is coming, at New Year beginning we have 3 days vacation I suggest to hold a staff traveling, let our staff take a rest, improve their friendship with each other or improve relationship with family members, I believe a happy New Year beginning can bring a shining year. Here is my staff traveling project below.

Firstly I would like to introduce tour spot, our tour spot is “大雪山森林遊樂區” let’s look media.

(Media play) “High and steep mountains, and twinkling clusters of stars besprinkled” that is the perfect portrayal of the Dasyueshan National Forest Recreation Area, which lies in Heping Township, Taichung county. This area lies to the south of Snow mountain, and its crest line is 12 kilometers long. It extends from little snow mountain to Anma mountain, and the elevation is anywhere from 2,000 to 2,996 meters as the earth surface undulates greatly. This area is “Cloud and mist zone” according to meteorology, so “Sea of clouds” is famous landscape.

Besides “sea of clouds” Snow mountain has rich plant ecology, is an essence of Taiwan’s natural forest featuring each zone with an ecological view respectively. Behind Anma mountain house is a primitive forest of junipers which is quite rare in Taiwan. There lies a footpath of 2,682 meters long. Snow Mountain is a most perfect environment for the wild animals. The Formosan macaque jumps butterfly flies there, there are about 70 kinds of rare birds; this recreation area is an international resort for watching birds.

Would you like to look up into starry sky? Have you ever see moon rise from the sea of clouds? The night in Dasyueshan brings a fascinating dome of twinkling stars accessible to you, “Sky lake” is best spot for observing stars scenery is beautiful.

Lades and gentleman does this spot attract you? Here is time table for this project, we will start from 12/31 to 1/2, and because I need to book hotel, the deadline is 11/31, so please go back to ask staffs how many people will join and then answer me before 11/28, otherwise we need to spend more money for this project.

Speech title: An optimist

Speech Project: the moral of the story(A4)

Time limit: 4 to 6 minutes

A person who is optimistic is an optimist. On the contrary, a person who is pessimistic is a pessimist. Do you know the difference between an optimist and a pessimist? An optimist sees the donut. A pessimist sees nothing but the hole of the donut. An optimist sees the sweetness of the chocolate. A pessimist sees only the calories of the chocolate. Ladies and gentlemen, do you believe your attitude can change your life?

John is one of my best friends. He is also a member of toastmaster club somewhere in this island. John is an excellent speaker and optimist. Actually, he is an incredible nature-born optimist. John was born in a poor family. When he was still a little John, all the kids in the family could only get red eggs as birthday gifts. When John’s sister received a red egg on her birthday, she cried because other kids in the neighborhood got more and better gifts on their birthday. However, when John received his birthday gift, still a red egg, a weird thought came to his mind. “Where there is an egg, there must be a chicken! My mother must have prepared a fried chicken dinner for me”. Neither John nor his sister had the fried chicken dinner on birthday. But John was happily waiting his fried chicken, his sister was crying on birthday.

As I mentioned earlier, my friend John is now an excellent speaker. But he wasn’t a nature-born speaker. He really sucked before. He blew up his very first formal presentation when he studied at the graduate school in National Taiwan University. It was in a big conference room, all the people in the graduate school, the professors, all the PH.D candidates, his classmates and including a beautiful girl who John had admired for a very long time were all there. And John was going to present his research in two years to all of them. He had prepared a 30-paged material and the time limit was 15 minutes. When he got on the stage and looked at the audience, he saw nothing but hundreds of eyes staring at him. At the moment he knew he would be finished because he was totally frightened by the audience. The air was shattering and he was stuttering. Then he started mumbling. After ten minutes, he was still on page 2. When the time was up, John only finished 3 pages of his 30-paged material. John was defeated from head to toe in the presentation.

After the presentation, my friend John was very sad. He might loose the respect of his classmates, the trust of his professor, the beautiful girl’s heart and even worse, his master degree. It was all because of his bad performance in the presentation. But I told you he’s a nature-born optimist. Only after one day, another weird thought came to his mind. “Can it be worse? No, this is the worst result of a presentation. And if it can not be worse, I can only be better next time!” After he got straight of this, John was happy again. Because he’d been through the worst, it can only be better next time. He started working really hard for his next presentation. He believed that it could only be better next time because he got nothing to loose. At last, he succeeded in his next presentation, earned his master degree and won the beautiful girl’s heart as well.

Ladies and gentlemen, have you been through setbacks which may change your life? If you have one next time, please calm down first and then think what will happen. If it is not the worst, congratulate to you my friends, because it is not the worst. And if you’re in the worst shape, congratulate to you my friends, because it can not be worse. It can only be better next time. Work harder on it, and then you will win the victory eventually.

LV’s Secrets

Can any one tell me which brand does this pattern belong to? That’s right. It belongs to LV, also called Louis Vuitton. Do you like LV bag, wallet, purse, or handbag? I see some of your eyes are shining. I believe that there are a lot people in this world want to buy and use LV’s products.

However, there are so many fake LV products in the market. Do you know how to tell a fake LV bag? I would like to share some clues to identify whether the product is a real LV or not. We can know the difference between real LV and fake LV from the material, stitching, smell, pattern, stamp, hardware, and serial number.

Clue No. 1: the material. The real LV monogram is specially made of a material that can prevent fire and scratches, so that the leather has a rough touch. For the fake LV bags, the material can not prevent fire, and the material is quite smooth too. It has a great reflection. Briefly, the canvas of the bag should not be too soft or stiff, or "oily" or shiny.

Clue No. 2: the stitching. All LV bags have even and neat finished stitching. The stitching on the handles should use yellow thread. The sides of the handles should be a shiny, glazed red. The fake LV bags have poor stitching, mismatched seams, and a cheap looking zipper.

Clue No. 3: the smell. There is a unique strong leather smell, especially with the new one, even though you used the bag over a span, there exists a leather smell. But the fake bag used the imitation leather, like synthetic leather, which is like the plastic smell.

Clue No. 4: the pattern. All LV bags come with their own unique pattern. The "LV" monogram should have irregular brown lines through the gold-colored letters, and a flower pattern. Fake monograms may be a solid color or look too green or orange.

Clue No. 5: the stamp. All LV bags have the manufacturer stamped on the bag and the stamp “made in France” sign should not be in the outside but the inside same with the serial number. You may see “made in France”, “made in Spain”, “made in Italy”, or “made in U.S.A.”, but not “made in China”.

Clue No. 6: the hardware. All LV bags have “LV” logo on its hardware such as zippers, rivets and padlock. The zipper pull should be brass hardware, heavy to the touch.

Clue No. 7: the serial number. All authentic LV bags have a serial number lightly embossed in a hidden spot in the bags stating the place and date where the bag was made. Since the early 1990's, this code has been represented by two letters followed by four numbers. For example, AA0954 means that the bag was made in France on May 1994.

Of course, besides above 7 clues the material, stitching, smell, pattern, stamp, hardware, and serial number, there are still many methods to differentiate the imitation and the real LV. I just addressed part of them and hope those would be helpful to you to identify the real LV once you have the opportunity to buy one.

Let me begin by saying that you did a superb job of organizing the Dinner and Entertainment at FallCon 2006. It was high class! The opening, where we were confronted by all the cameras, was great! (I felt like a movie star!) The food of course was wonderful, and lots of it! The party king and queen was a real winner! The photo frames idea was a big success. I personally took many photos in that area! The decoration was great! The band and dancing was also excellent! No one seemed to want to leave the dance floor! And I am sure I have missed other winners too.

What does this say about AleMax? It tells me you are committed. It shows me you have talent. And it proved to me that you know how to deliver. That is VERY important on a large event like a national convention. Congratulations!

But I haven't finished yet! The convention banner, even downsized, was a winner too! It looked colorful, professional, and I know it took many people by surprise. Thanks for your ingenuity.

Or

Example:

If she had seen the singer, she would have been very excited.

· If he doesn't grow more, the coach will ignore him.

Long long time ago, there was a high noble birth who got a lot of fortune. He was as rich as a king. However, at the same time one thing bother him. Because he needs housekeepers to manage his big fortune and business. He decided to test them. One day, he was going to a distant country. And he called three of his most ability housekeepers here and gave each of them ten mints of gold, and said. Put these money work until I come back.

Time is going fast, this noble birth returned home; he called for three housekeepers here and asked them how did they manage money. The first housekeeper come and said, master, your gold has make ten more. His mater replied satisfied: well done, man, you have been trustworthy in this very small matter, take charge of my ten business.

The second come and said, sir, your gold has earned five more. This noble birth answered, good job, and you take charge of my 5 business.

The last one come and said, dear my master, here is your gold, I keep your money and wrapped them with the precise cloth and hide them in my pillow. The gold is as precise as my life. His master replied with angry; Poor man, you are wasting my money, you are wasting my time. I regret put my money to you instead of depositing them in the bank. Then l could collected it with interest. Then he took away gold from the third man, and gave it to the one with making ten more mint of gold.

Dear members, this is the story I picked out from the bible. Maybe you will think, what does this story work to me? I am not as rich as bill gates, I neither got the lottery, We image, if one of us were the fourth one, how do you do? How do I do? Waste all of money and run away before the master come back. Or maybe I will union another three housekeeper, and put money together and cooperate among four of us to make a new business to roll much bigger money. One head is better than 2 heads, 2 heads are bigger than 5. Teamwork is the major current.

Wang Chen-Ming, Taiwan’s pressure star, he just got 19 wins of professional baseball contest of United States. His performance evokes the revolution of American professional baseball field. His major pitches, sinker, makes the most ground balls and he depends on his teammates defending to make opponents out. Strike-out is not his major. On the other hand, he trusts his partner, and they work as a team to win the game.

I work for the woodworking machinery company. I am impressed with one of our customers in Malaysia. He has been working with 2 of his partner for more than 20 years. He was in charge of sales; the other one was for design and manufacturing proceed; and another one takes charge of financial control. They work out their profession, build discipline, loyal each other, and public communication. Now their company, is the number 1 of woodworking machinery in South Malaysia. He told me a truth, there is no hero at this time. Working each other is the best way to get the maximum profit.

It has been my pleasure joining Alemax club. We are a big family. Every time I attend meeting with assignment, I am nervous, I am pressed, and I am exciting and expecting. I am nervous, because I hope to deliver a good speech for all of you. I am expecting, because I want to know how do Lillian introduce me to here. I am pressed because timer is going to show red sign to me. I am expecting because I feel like listening to how does John evaluate my speech. I am exciting because I hope to know if I am the best speaker tonight. I am appreciated because Jane, Keny, and other members put all stuffs set up for the meeting. We are partners to make high quality meeting every time. Dear members, we are not the guest, we are the master.

My Observations in ALE MAX

Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to~ Do you know whose birthday I’m celebrating to? Good evening, ladies and gentlemen! I’m celebrating to the Birthday of ALE MAX! The Youth Rule says, “Constancy is the foundation of success!” For the past three years, I spent each evening time on the first and third Tuesday per month with ALE MAX members. I join each regular meeting! Wow, how big this achievement is! And what did I get from this persistence? Seventy-four free dinner! Plus Seventy-four public speaking chances! And seventy-four times of observations!

I’m a curious person. I hope I don’t have any contribution to sexual harassment. Actually because of my curiosity, I like to observe persons and things happening around me and of course in ALE MAX meeting! I got lots fun from doing that! So tonight I am going to share with you about my observations in ALE MAX!

1. First of all, always take care of the time for food offering. Someone says, “The way to a member’s heart is through his stomach!” Offering delicious food is one of our specialties, but not everyone can really feed their stomach! Remember! The first ten minutes after food serving is the golden time. Most of the food will disappear at that time! So timer has told you time in Toastmasters meeting is really important! However, speakers always cannot really enjoy the food because of nervousness. So if you prefer to kill two birds with one stone, I mean to also lose weight here, please write down the following information! She will arrange you as many assignments as she can. As you know, I just had only two speeches in the past one year. And see! My fat!

2. Keep good relationship with the members! Or they’ll not laugh while your jokes are not so entertaining. Especially if you choose the manual, the entertaining speaker, like me. If you’re not good at making friends, at least you have to make friend with Jonathan. But why? According to my observation, he is always the first one to laugh loudly while everyone telling jokes. See~ Hoo~ Now I have more confidence! But if it’s even too late to make friend with Jonathan. Use money! See~ it works! If it still cannot work, add the magic words after your sentence. Yah! It really works! Ah Huh~

3. Pretend busy during Table Topic session! We all know the table topic session is a good chance for you to practice thinking with your feet! But sometimes your feet cannot work very well, and what can you do? Pretend you’re busy! If you’re evaluators, GE or language evaluator, keep writing even you have finished your report! If you usually have no assignment during the meeting, I’m sorry! Try your best to maintain your feet in good condition! However, is there any exception? I think Jonathan will say, “YES” because no matter he has assignment or not, He is usually the popular candidates in Table Topic Session! Sorry, Jonathan, I don’t know how to give you a good explanation. But Father of ROC said, “Serve is the goal of life!” The Father of ALE MAX Toastmasters Club always needs to contribute more to the club! How lucky we are!

Ladies and gentlemen, the birth day of ALE MAX is August 6. Are you also the one who has stayed with ALE MAX for three years or you just join ALE MAX for several months? Are you the one who feel like nothing to do during the meeting? I never have this kind of feeling because I do my observing all the time! Except to the interesting things I just said, I enjoy the feeling to see the growth of others. So I’m always satisfied after the meeting because I learn a lot at the meeting and feel honor to be one of ALE MAX! Ladies and gentlemen, as you know I’ll not be here after the second meeting on September because of my study. So please help me to keep this observation and keep your self-growth for me! I’ll be back soon to celebrate another birthday of ALE MAX! Happy Birthday to ALE MAX~ Toastmasters!

Dear All, Thank God that we all survive the heat wave. Pls see the following to speak more impeccable English. Say: The thief broke into our house. Don't say: The thief run into our house. Say: I misplaced my key. Don't say: I put my key somewhere and can't find it. Say: The house was burgalized. Don't say: The house was robbed. There are some idioms to desdribe when a person dies. Eg: Kick the bucket, six feet under. When someone is dying, we can also say he's on deathbed. Jane, our good mother, used quite a few good expressions in her speech. Here are two of them. 1) I go extra miles to trake care of my kids. 2) The generation gap is creeping into our family. Finally, special thanks to the generosity of Maxwell, Keny, Amanda, Celine, Wade, Julia, Julie who patronized my suff, so that we raised NT1380 last night. The proceeds will go to our CTM fund. Don’t be controlled by anger

(Opening)

“Jane is a good mother!” You may have heard session masters introduce me this way. But I have a confession to make. I am a frustrated mother. I’ve always had terrible problems with my sons. I go the extra mile to help them to get rid of their bad habits and hope they put their heart into their studies.

I take responsibility for everything big and small on a daily basis. For example, in this morning, my son called out for help. “Mom, where is my uniform? I can’t find it anywhere. Can you help me?” So I put my chores aside and looked for the uniform. Even worse, sometimes their teachers complain to me how badly they behave in school. They don’t summit the homework or distract others in the class. It takes my breath away. But I can’t quit my responsibility.

Gradually, I find myself nagging a lot and losing my temper easily. I feel the generation gap is creeping into my family. One day when I saw my son made the room messy, one sock here and another there, I got angry again and blamed him. While I was yelling at him in front of the mirror, I saw myself; a grumpy face in the mirror. Then I looked at my son, he was scared and his head drooped. I think my anger might affect his character. I have to change my ways.

Anger is a completely normal, usually healthy, human emotion. But when it gets out of control and turns destructive, it can lead to problems at work, in your personal relationships, and in the overall quality of your life.

Have you ever lost your temper? How do you feel? When you get angry, your heart rate and blood pressure go up, as do the levels of your energy hormones and adrenaline. A raging person usually doesn ’t listen to any explanations or advice, they are out of control and seem like volcano erupting. And often things happen that trigger their anger, and these things make them regretful all their lives. So we need to control our anger before it controls us.

However, knowing how to recognize and express anger appropriately can help us to reach goals. What makes you angry? It is best to find out what it is that triggers your anger, and then to develop strategies to keep those triggers from sending you over the edge. I have figured out how to make my sons listen to me. I set up of rules for them, if they can reach it, they will get more allowance. I made contract with them.

Are you too angry? What can you do when you feel angry? Try to divert your thoughts. For my experience, instead of telling myself, “oh, it’s awful, it’s terrible, I’m going to blow up.” I tell myself, “it’s frustrating, I’m upset about it, but it’s not the end of the world and getting angry is not going to fix it anyhow.” That way can help me get a more balanced perspective and cool down.

Give yourself a break. Make sure you have some “ personal time” scheduled for times of the day that you know are particularly stressful. If your life is full of stress, dissatisfaction can easily pile up until one day the dam bursts. So find something you enjoy and do it on a regular basis. Schedule it in! For me, I like gardening, so I feel peaceful when I water the flowers and trim the branches.

Since I started to learn to control my anger, my relationship with my sons is getting better and the generation gap is being bridged. We enjoy having small talks and they are thoughtful to share in housework. I just did a little change but benefited a lot. I am a happy mother now.

Yawn. Oooo. Wade, what did you do last night? Oh, I am sorry; last night I overwork until ten thirty, and I drift myself home, take a bath, rush to do a report for tomorrow, and rehearsal my c9 speech...and

Yawn is one of kind signs out of my body to notice me, not notice my friends, that Hi man, I am tired. I need to take a rest. Don't burn me out.

Every day before I go to work, I need to drive my daughter to 萬丹 for my parents in law to take care of her. It is only 30 minutes driving time; however, sometimes it is extremely dangerous time. My eyelids are getting heavy to close my eye; music in the radio is whispering to me. Strong coffee is like water. I am getting out of mind. I am driving, out of lane. And I awake to return my lane for seconds. Then I am driving, out of my lane; and I awake to return. Every day I stand in the cliff with my daughter. Feeling sleepy is dangerous sign out of my body to notice me, Hi man, I am tired. I need take more rest.

A teenager stayed at internet caf'e shop more than 54 hours, and he pass away.

A very hardworking student stay up all day night preparing for examination; He finished this big examination. And at the same day he finished his life after playing baseball with friends. There is no dangerous sign out of their body to notice. Because.

You know in Taiwan, there is more than three hundred thousand teenagers surfing the internet and the cyber game in the cyber cofe day and night.

Who steal my sleep? Who snatch our sleeping time? After busy working day until at ten in the evening we know we are supposed to have sweet dream, take a long break with our body, why we not yet go to bed? We prefer drinking big glass of strong flavor tea, coffee, or something to try to hold on our lasting awake instead of lying on the comfortable bed.

Watching 24-hours TV, surfing internet, overscheduled work not yet finished, preparing for report or test, talking with friends.. There is quite a few answers.

We don't value the sleeping time. We know sleeping is important. But we don't know that sleeping is the most important of our life. We are not as young as we thought; we are not as strong as we expected without enough sleeping.

Dear members, if you figure out that you feel sleepy or very tired the following day. Or still keep doing the same thing and not yet finished. Not able to write down your name fluently. Constantly nodding when your boss or teacher are staring at you. Your field of view is as thin as a line. Stop stealing and squeezing any second of your sleeping time.

Watch Out! the Sexual Harrasser is by Your Side

It is not easy to be a woman. When we face the robbery, we are worried about they will rob our wallet, and at the same time, we still have to worry that they will rob our beauty. Just like me, a woman with beauty and wisdom in one, these fears bother me a lot. Don’t laugh, because from now on, I will tell you two events that truly happen to me.

As I remembered, the first sexual harassment happened when I was a third grade elementary school student. One day, one of my classmates and I were playing ‘Chai-Chai-Choe’, then a water electrician came toward us and said “Cute girls, there were two water taps broken and I have to fix it, could you helped me?”. At that time, we just thought of what teacher taught-Help is the joyful foundation, so we said yes and follow the water electrician to the washbasin. When we arrived there, two water taps were spraying all over the place, so he told us to hold the tap tightly and don’ t let the water come out. We did not hold the tap tightly, and then he started stand behind my classmate and used his big hands to hold my classmate hands and said “ You are not holding tight enough, if the water keep spraying out, then I can’t fix it”. I felt strange so when he came to me, I hold it very tight and not let him had the chance to hold my hands. He just kept holding our hands and did nothing about fix the taps, then the bell rang, I grabbed my classmate’s hand quickly and ran away from him. Because I notice that something down there was growing big, so I think he is not a real water electrician.

Second time happened when I was studied in St. Dowming Senior high school. In that period of time, girl’s boobs grew, especially some girls they were well developed. This would attract the high school boys. I remembered one day when I was riding my bike home, there was a high school boy rode his bike quickly passed by my side. But do you know when he passed by me, his hand was touching my boobs and grab them? It happened so fast that I couldn’t react immediately. I even didn’t shout out at that time, so I just let him disappeared in front of my eyes. Now, you know how difficult to be a woman. Female has many parts, such as boobs, butt, and even our ponytail can attract sexual harasser. Therefore, you have to watch out, they might come to you.

(Conclusion)

According to my experiences, I will point out three main points you have to pay attention. First, when you face the sexual harasser, you have to shout out with long and loud voice like “Fire alarm” to replace “Save my life” because fire alarm could attract more people. Second, use your high heel shoes or anti-spray to attack him. Third, leave that place as soon as possible. If you can cool down and not scare to fight with the sexual harasser, and you can let other people know you are having sexual harassment at the first time, I believe even you can’t stop it happens, but you can protect yourself. So be brave then you can face it without fears.

C10 It Takes A Village To Raise a Child Jason Wu

"It Takes a village to raise a child." Ladies and gentlemen, have you ever heard of this idiom before? This idiom comes from Africa. I strongly agree with it. Educating children is important but whose responsibility is it? Teachers or parents? How about you and me? What can we do? People are social. In our life, we will meet many people and learn some things from them because we learn from each other.
When we read newspaper and watch TV news, what do you see? Normally you will see nothing but negative news, such like murder, kidnapping, scam, or celebritys' gossip. There is simply too much violence and sex. The crime rate has been more than double comparing with ten or twenty years ago. Funny thing is that as our people gain more education, they lose their moral. School girls date old men for money. Prostitutes demand work right in a public place. Since when have this kind of behaviors become acceptable? Prostitutes and gigolos are becoming popular? Is that a good thing?

There's a news story which goes that a man who likes watching strip shows so much that he spent a lot of time on it. One day, he was watching a strip show in a pub when he saw his daughter dancing as one of the stripers. Can you picture the scene? The daughter stood on stage, danced and took off her clothes. The father sat in front of stage. How pathetic! But whose fault is that?

Another news story. The police arrested a gang of motorbike racers (illegal ones) and they notified their parents to police station to bail their children out. Some parents would not believe that their kids are under arrest. They believe their children are good kids. Some of the parents didn even know where their children were. They thought their children were still sleeping. They had absoultely no idea what their children had been up to. What comes to your mind when motorbike racer whiz through your neighboorhood at night when you are sleeping? Oh! You might curse these scumballs. But again, who made them become motorbike racers?

In my C9 speech I mentioned that the strongest influence you can get is from environment. What is environment? In fact, it is people. A person will learn from different people at differnt stages of his life. When he is young, his role model maybe is his parent. After he enters school, his role model might be changed to his teacher. In his teens, his friend have more influence on him. We all play many roles in this society . We could be a friend, we could be a parent and we can be a teacaher. If we compare our society to a machine, each one of us is a little screw. We affect many people unconsciously. So we are the basic but essential element of this environment.

Back to topic, "It Takes A Village to Raise A Child", it means to provide a good environment for our children is our duty not educators'. If teachers strive to teach your children but you are not a good example, will your children turn out to be a good person? Can you expect others to do some things you don like to do? Will they obey your order? So everything starts from ourselves. We should improve ourselves and then influence our family. Many good families will consist a better society and then a strong country.

I have asked you one question in my last speech-- s TM a good environment??nbsp; Yes, I do think that TM is a good environment. I have seen many members got benefits from here. They improve themselves considerably. In this place, we learn from each other, we help each other, we grow day by day. Why don you share the benefit with your family and your friends or anyone you know? If you influence them and then they will influence other people. So this positive group of ours will become a great environment. Therefore I am sure that TM is a positive power to push our society to become better. Would you like to make a positive difference in our society? Let start from ourselves, let begin from here. Dear TM.

I had an interview at a western restaurant this afternoon. It’s a nice restaurant. The interviewer told me that she was looking for someone who had related work experiences .I worked at a Chinese restaurant for two and half years. Yet I’m not sure if I am the one she wanted. I was also too nervous in that interview to ask when she was going to get back to me. If I take this job, I'll be able to learn more about western restaurants. Hope there weren't too many people who were interested in this job. Good luck, baby!

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.
When I was in my fourth grade, one day, I went shopping in a bookstore. I saw this diary on the shelf, and I couldn’t resist it as it's so gorgeous and came with a lock. Thus I would be able to write down anything and nobody would know my secretes. Since then I started to keep a diary.

Luckily, two days after that interview, I got the job I told you about. The work in the restaurant was like a piece of cake, because I had had experiences of servicing. Half year later, the boss was going to open a branch coffee shop which is nearer my school. I had a new assignment. I would be one of bartenders in that coffee shop. It made me so excited. I was going to learn more skills and things about beverages. And I found this diary which is called “About Coffee”. I filled my colorful life in it.

Jay is a new coworker. He and I both are main bartenders in this coffee shop. Sometimes we discussed how to make good coffee together. And we’re single, too. Other coworkers always guess that we’re couple. Even I just wanted to work hard on my lessons and beverages. Jay sent some messages when I felt sad or asked me when I was going to be his girlfriend. I knew that he was only joking. I also thought something. If we became couple, people at the coffee shop would gossip about it. So it's not a good idea to have office romance. I chose opacity, because I didn’t have the courage to handle this situation. It was gone on several mouths. One day, after work, all the coffee shop staffers went singing at KTV. And I saw Jay held Betty’s hand and they drank with the same cup. It’s enough. I would never confuse that how to deal with Jay and me. Even Jay and Betty broke up one month later.

I’m not a writer. I don’t always observe the behavior of everyone carefully. And I don’t have good imagination, either. I don’t know how to write some logics from a cup of water. So I just keep a diary every other day. What happened in these days and what did I feel in this situation. When I felt down, I’ll try to keep every bad feeling or do some self-reflections in the diary. After that, I will feel better. Even there are some dirty words that a good girl shouldn’t have. Oops, it’s a secret. So it’s not safe to tell someone about your secrets. There is one more important benefit that you can get from keeping a diary--you will be a better writer. That’s why I always got better grades from my writing class and even got the third grade by writing a short story.

When I was preparing this speech, I read my diaries again. It brings back many pleasant memories, and makes me feel how stupid I was. I saw that girl worked so hard at the coffee shop. She also has grown up from breaking up with a poor guy. Now, I also write blog on the Internet. It’s a great way to connect with friends. But they never know what my secret is. Hey, there is one more thing…

The saint of lovers---Valentine’s story

Good evening ladies and gentlemen,

Tonight I am going to tell you a story of a very famous lover in the history, St Valentine. We all know that Valentine’s Day is on February 14th. But before I go further into the story, there is still some information need to be known. So, ladies and gentlemen, shall we take a short quiz now?

Thank you ladies and gentlemen, you guys are just too good at history. I believe it will be easier for me to help you understand the whole story.

Long long time ago….. In the early days of Rome, at that time, Rome was ruled by an emperor named Claudius. Nobody liked the emperor very much because he was very cruel. Claudius wanted to have a big army. He expected men volunteer to join the army. But there were not many men joined in the army because they didn’t want to fight in the war and leave their lovers or wives as well. This made Claudius really mad. So the bad emperor had a crazy idea. He thought if men didn’t get married, they would not mind joining in the army. So the emperor decided not to allow any more marriages. Getting married became illegal at that time!

St Valentine, a priest, was the first one to against the stupid law. He encouraged young people to go for their love and most importantly, he still kept on performing marriage ceremonies for young couples—secretly in the basement. Gradually, he became famous to all the young couples who wanted to get married. As he was getting famous, his life was getting dangerous too. Eventually, he got caught after he had married hundreds of couples. He was thrown to jail and sentenced to death immediately.

Even he was in jail and would be executed anytime, St Valentine was still very optimistic. It might be the power of love because he’s the one who truly believed in love. That’s the reason he took life risk to marry hundreds of young couples. And many young people came to the jail to visit him. They brought flowers and notes to the jail to show their supports to St Valentine. One of these young people was the daughter of the prison guard, whose name was Emma. Because of her father, she was allowed to see St Valentine in his cell. Sometimes they talked for hours. St Valentine knew that Emma really liked him but he’s the one who couldn’t be love because he’s going to die. So on the day of February 14th, he left a farewell note to express his appreciation to Emma before he was executed. He signed the note, “Love from your Valentine”. Many people believed this is the origin that we send people Valentine’s cards and exchange love messages nowadays.

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s a simple story, isn’t it? Love is simple yet memorable. That’s why Valentine’s Day has been celebrated for nearly 2000 years. Do you remember what was the gift you gave or you received from your lover on last Valentine’s Day? Chocolates, candlelight dinners, gold, diamonds and romantic nights in luxury hotels, Valentine’s Day is just over-commercialized nowadays. Let me tell you some Valentine traditions in the old days. In the Middle Ages France, if you like someone, you can draw someone’s name on your sleeves and wear the cloth for a week during Valentine’s Day. And if the special someone likes you, he/she will draw your name on their sleeves too. Then you can draw a heart on the sleeves and people will know that you’re in love with someone. Another tradition was in Wales England. Hearts, keys and keyholes were carved in wooden spoons as gifts given out to your loved ones. It means, “You unlock my heart”. It’s really romantic, isn’t it?

Ladies and gentlemen, I have been keeping telling the old traditions and the story of Valentine to my ex-girlfriends for years. And guess what, after they knew the real meaning of Valentine’s Day, they wouldn’t ask expensive gifts from me. That saved me a lot of money. Of course, you can only use the story to one girl for one time only. After all, Valentine’s Day is all about exchanging of love messages but not exchanging of expensive gifts. Toastmaster!

As a smart girl, please go shopping, shopping and shopping for your health. And for my health I also bought this glory diamond ring for myself.

Ladies and gentlemen, good evening, have you ever had the feelings that you want to thank your parents for their loving efforts to raise a family but you don’t know how to show your affection? Have you ever had the feelings that you really need a hug from your intimate friends and your family but you don’t know how to say it? We always expect love will come to our way, but many of us are afraid to show them your love and passion at the beginning. And sometimes when we have a crush on someone, we don’t have the courage to take an action. What’s the problem? The problem is fear. Do you agree to that? We fear failure. We fear the results will get us frustrated and embarrassed. We fear that if we fail to get what we want, we will be lack of confidence when we face it again. From my friends stories I found that everyone loves family but not everyone can show their love to parents easily. And you know what? When I just came back to my hometown, some people said that “hey Scott, somehow I feel that you‘ve got a change, and you look different than you used to be”. So tonight let me share you a story from my family, and you’ll know what the change is and how I can show my love and passion in my life!

After I graduated from school to work, I felt the relationship between me and my family was not that strong and connected than ever because of generation gap. So I often had lots of quarrels with my parents and the quarrel has been going and going until the time when I went to Taipei for work. One day a miracle started to happen that would change my life when I lived with my cousin’s family. I remembered every time when I came back from work, I could see my cousin making milk for his little baby. Wow~ suddenly, I felt the warm and love and it really recalled my family life in my childhood. At that time I thought I was not a good son as I didn’t spend much time with my mother and father. So Since then I place my family above everything especially when I left my home for a long time. Back to two years ago in Taipei, I remembered one day I was working on Father’s day, after work I made a phone call to my dad because it’s a special day for him. Moreover, I haven’t contacted with them for three months already. So I called my dad and let him know I’m doing fine in Taipei. But at the moment he picked up the phone, I began to stammer as my father is a traditional and serious man, I never say something lovely and show him my concern. And I thought he would quarrel with me as I couldn’t come back to see them because of work and long distance. But to my surprise, he said “I hope you can come back more often and your mom will prepare your favorite dishes for you.” At that moment I was really moved by the words he said because he doesn’t show his affection in front of me easily. So here I want to say “Dad, I love you! “
As for my mother, she is devoted all her life to our family and I really appreciated that so I spent five thousands NT dollars to buy her a purse with a sweet letter on Mother’s day. Especially when she cooks, I always try to help her cooking because I love cooking, too. And I think it’s the best way for me to improve the relationship between me and my mom. Until now even though she always nags at me, all I want to say to her is “mom, you works so hard for our family, I love you!” so they are the reason why I want to come back to Kaohsiung and live with my parents again, I think my family changes me to be more mature and understanding man that I have never thought I would be like!

In a word, people are groups. We all need friends and family so we can not live along without love and care our parents give us. Do you know why I share my family story with all of you tonight? Because I think if you don’t show your love to your family naturally, how could you show your love and passion to others? And if we can not love each other, how could this world be full of love and peaceful. So if you come back to home to see your parents next time, please give them a hug and say “Thanks for your love and care, I really appreciate what you’ve done for me, mom and dad, I love you!”

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Every body knows I’m a vet boy, but nobody knows I am also a water boy. Why do I love swimming so much? Because this kind of sport, that I can do it alone, and the sport injury is rare. It is also a whole body exercise and nice aerobic sport. But tonight I didn’t only want to tell you the advantage of this sport. Properly I would like share with you my personal story when I want to be a water boy.

It was a hot summer vacation in 1995. I was still a vet intern in animal teaching hospital of National Pingtung University. I thought I’d be very busy but still bored in this summer vacation. I didn’t want this vacation end up like last one. Maybe God heard my prayer, my then classmate who was also my buddy gave me a big surprise next day. He signed up a lifeguard training for me. Luckily, we both were admitted. It was simply too good to be true. And just when I was fantasizing the wonderful beaches or swimming pools and the hot bikini girls in this vacation, my buddy told me not to expect too much from it yet. Although we were admitted, we had to pass the entrance examination before we could join the training course. This is a big problem for us. According to the information of the lifeguard training society, the acceptance rate was only 50 percent. We didn’t know how to prepare and we only had one month to go. For the sake of the colorful and unforgettable summer vacation, we’re ready to risk everything. Finally we requested the senior who was already a lifeguard coach. We were so lucky, because he offered to help us and he designed a basic and simple training course for us. But not everything was smooth as silk. I had to iron out some obstacles. Firstly my boss gave me so much work to do that I always worked over time. And secondly, I had some home teaching job in my free time. Thirdly, I had to get up early to join the morning swimming training. I knew my body was so tired progressively and my mind was not really clear day by day. Three weeks later, something happened. I still remember it is a nice early morning. It’s the same fresh air and birds singing. I was on my way to the swimming pool by motorcycle. I still felt so tired because my sleeping time was not enough. Suddenly someone turned off the light in my mind. I couldn’t see anything at the same time. Then I felt the motorcycle run over the roadblock. It was flying in the air and it collided with a tree. Ya. What about me? I fell down on the ground and my body was upside down. And I fainted soon. When I woke up I just knew that my body had multiple abrasions. The doctor told me that I had to be in hospital for two days.

I got batter quickly in the last week and all of us passed the entrance examination. But it is just only a beginning. I knew the following training course would be harder than ever.
