(Opening)
Ladies and gentleman “good evening”, last week I had an opportunity to attend a conference, in National Pingtung University of Science and Technology on “respecting life”. The main speaker was Dr. Lee, he comes from department of life science in National Taiwan University. In this meeting, He talked about what the difference is between animal and the world, their life’s origin and the end, and then he asked us the meaning of our life, the things we do as we live and the relationship between human, animal and the world? I know most people have different explaination and idea. A few million years ago, people considered the animal as their food. Then a few thousand years ago, animals were mainly treated as slaves and work for human, Today, however some animals have become our partners, friends, and a part of our family. Why does this relationship change? Tonight I would like to challenge your mind.

It’s only after the conference, I started to think what thing I can do for the world? Our national father initially wanted to be a doctor so he could save people’s life, but he didn’t really think that was enough. He felt that our country had certain imperfections. Therefore he decided that a revolution was the only way to save the country and its people. Why he does that, he knows people and country need him. I don’t think I can save anyone, but I do know what I can help people to better take care of their pet, and promote the concept so more people would respect the life of animal. If you ask me why I make this decision, my answer will be : yes. I just know that they need me.
Chinese culture came from feudalism into democracy because it’s the trend of the world. The thought of animals changed from human food to become our partners, friends, and the family today. That’s also the trend of the world. In the other modern countries, like America and Canada, and in Europe pets are looked after like human beings. Why do they do that? Because they know this is necessary, they love them.
Why does the animal need our respect? Because people will change their mind progressively. Some dogs can help people and save people’s life, just like a guide dog for a blind person, I know a story about a dog jump into the fired house to save his owner. So, do you believe that?
Ok!! Formerly, the men are more important than women, but now both of them are equally important. So maybe the animal and human will have equal rights in the future. So believe that.

In Taiwan, respecting the life of animal is not an easy thing to do, but more and more people will face to this topic, more and more people are already doing that by themselves. In 1999, the law on animal protection was enforced to become a part of the legislation. This is a good news for both the animal and human. Give you a question: In interpersonal relationship, what do you think when you will become Amanda? And From the world’s view, what do you think when you will become a dog? If you never do that, it will be a strongly mind challenge. Because I think it will came truth in someday of feature. Thanks. Toastmaster.
