Best Speaker's Vidoe of Meeting No.300, Wayne Hsiao

Dear all,

Here is the video of Best Speaker of Meeting No.300.
I have to confess that I forgot to confirm the power of battery of my camera.
So I just recorded 4 minutes for his speech.
Luckily, Wayne offered his script before the meeting.
You can enjoy his story about his mistakes and
know the tips to prevent making the same mistakes in his script.

**************************************************************
Speech Project: C3 ( Get To The Point - 5 to 7 minutes )

Speech Title : 1 minute                         by Wayne Hsiao 2016/03/01(AMTC)

*.Objective:
Select a speech topic and determine its general and specific purposes.
Organize the speech in a manner that best achieves those purposes.
Ensure the beginning, body, and conclusion reinforce the purposes.
Project sincerity and conviction and control any nervousness you may feel.
Strive not to use notes.

<Opening>
        When is your last time to make a mistake?
        I made many mistakes in my life , in my work , or even in our meeting here. But luckily, I am also a person who always easily forget what I had made before. So, today I want to make a confession about the mistake I made in our last meeting. Because I hope that I won't do the same thing again.

<Body>
        In our last meeting , I was assigned to be the timer. And I made the wrong time report about Kevin's speech. Last time , Kevin presented his C6 speech and he spent 6' 49". So, according to time rules, he should have 7 minutes and 30 seconds allowance. Therefore, there is no doubt he is qualified. But I said "Everyone is qualified except Kevin Yang" in the timer report. It was really very awkward and embarrassed. But that was not only what I felt , but also what Kevin felt. Kevin is very nice and he accepted my apologies. And fortunately, this is not the only mistake I made last time.
        After our meeting , Michael told me that he was confused about the time I raised the red sign. Because he also recorded his speech's time by himself. Suddenly, I understood why I said the wrong time report about Kevin's speech. Because I totally followed the wrong time rules. I followed the C1 time rules in the whole manual speech session. Remember, Kevin is C6 , Michael is C3 and David is C2. They all belonged to C2-C9 time rules. So , that means when they saw the red sign I raised , it was actually just 6 minutes but not 7 minutes. I stolen one minute from each of them. I knew this was a very serious problem because it would affect their speeches a lot. Especially to their conclusion part. I can say nothing except sorry.

<Conclusion>
        Frankly, I wanted to keep this as a secret at first. Throw it away , burry it deeply and pretend nothing happened before. But I was afraid that maybe I will do the same thing again. And what can I do to prevent this happen again? Then , I got an idea from my company. In my company, my supervisor asks us to record the mistakes we made. About when, why and how much we loss. And we also have to report it in our regular meeting. Truth be told, it was really nervous to do so in front of your colleagues and boss. But I also found that it is really helpful to decrease the similar mistake occur again in a company. Hence, I think if I can tell you this matter. Maybe it will be helpful to me not to repeat the same thing again. Thank you. Toastmasters.

Best Speaker for ALE Meeting No.288, Jane Yang

A24 speechA Dramatic Talk 5 to 7 minutes   by Jane Yang
Title: Making a Right Decision              Delivered on 2015/09/01

Objectives:
1. Develop on entertaining dramatic talk about an experience or incident.
2. Include vivid imagery, characters and dialogue.
3. Deliver the talk in an entertaining manner.

(Opening)
Life is full of hard choices, we have a choice there is adventure, such as which job should you take? What car should you buy? Should you ask him to marry you? Are you ready for another baby? When we encounter a choice how disturbed we are, we hesitate to make the decision, why? Because we are afraid of the unknown.

However, we have such a feeling that we are in control and we are making the decision. It's the opposite. It's because we care. It's difficult and it's complex. And it's so complex that we don't know what to do.

(Body)
What is your last time for making the decision? Do you compare the list of pros and cons? Or following your instincts? Or listen to others opinions, or the sound in your mind? Making decision is hard, but as long as we are willing to take the outcome, it will be easy to make. Do you believe that in our mind live with the angle and devil? When I was caught in a dilemma, I will trigger the conversation between the angle and the devil. Last week, my boss insulted me in a meeting, the devil came out and said to me “Be an eagle not a turtle, you should fight for your right. Then, I got back to him, my boss was totally crazy out. The angle came out and said “Jane, calm down, you should know you are a staff, you will never win for this battle. Then the devil said, say to him you will quit your job, because you are the only staff he can rely on in Taiwan, you should let him know that you are important. The angle said to me, don’t do that, you should have the plan for your living, if you quit now, you will no job no money. The devil said : Don’t worry, you have your husband and sons, they will support your living. The angle told me, Jane, this company is shrinking now, your boss will lay you out someday, he should pay you severance pay, you have worked over 20 years, that will be a lot of money. The devil rushing answered, but his behavior was too over, if he does not respect you, why you need to work for him. The angle came out and said: this job pays well and offers you a chance to grow, take time to find out what you can do, until you have a better job or build your own career.
When I listened to the angle and devil’s conversation, I have the answer in my mind, I will try my best on work and let my boss know, I am not replaceable, on the other hands, I will improve my ability to find a better job or build my own career. Then one day I can say to my boss loudly, I quit.

 (Conclusion)
When we make the decision, sometime we fall into confusion and the life could not backward, Just make sure you’re in the right frame of mind, the reason why I said so is because if you make decisions when you are feeling angry, upset, annoyed, depressed, unhappy, chances are the decisions you make will eventually have a negative outcome.

Look at and evaluate all possible options, remember, whatever decisions you make, do not let your emotions come into play when you make decisions. make sure that you make it with a sound mind. This will significantly help to increase the chances that the decision you make you won’t regret.

2008/10/28 Study Gathering

I attended the study gathering of October. I really appreciated Jason who agitates for this kind of activity. Indeed, Learning English cannot be studied well by closing door at home alone. It needs a good interaction and interesting study environments, could bring an interest and keep it going on.

This month’s theme is “Brain Buster”, Mayna offered the books and Tina hosted the game. It is a fun way to view vocabulary and practice asking English questions, also good for brain exercise. We were divided into four teams, each team had to choose a person to answer questions. Everyone enjoyed playing the game and had fun time there.

I treasure this study gathering time, think about daily life, either in the office or at home, a lot of stress in life, it is a good chance to go out to hang out with friends, just relax with a drink and study English. I hope more and more fellow members can spare time to join this activity.
