Note of Advanced Manual Training Sharing

Division D and K arranged an advanced manual training on June 18 for members. 

It's really great and useful not only for Toastmasters speech delivering but also for our daily life or career.

Best Speaker for ALE Meeting No.288, Jane Yang

A24 speech（A Dramatic Talk 5 to 7 minutes）   by Jane Yang 

Title: Making a Right Decision              Delivered on 2015/09/01                        

Objectives:

1. Develop on entertaining dramatic talk about an experience or incident.                                         

2. Include vivid imagery, characters and dialogue.

3. Deliver the talk in an entertaining manner.

(Opening)

Life is full of hard choices, we have a choice there is adventure, such as which job should you take? What car should you buy? Should you ask him to marry you? Are you ready for another baby? When we encounter a choice how disturbed we are, we hesitate to make the decision, why? Because we are afraid of the unknown.

However, we have such a feeling that we are in control and we are making the decision. It's the opposite. It's because we care. It's difficult and it's complex. And it's so complex that we don't know what to do.

What is your last time for making the decision? Do you compare the list of pros and cons? Or following your instincts? Or listen to others opinions, or the sound in your mind? Making decision is hard, but as long as we are willing to take the outcome, it will be easy to make. Do you believe that in our mind live with the angle and devil? When I was caught in a dilemma, I will trigger the conversation between the angle and the devil. Last week, my boss insulted me in a meeting, the devil came out and said to me “Be an eagle not a turtle, you should fight for your right. Then, I got back to him, my boss was totally crazy out. The angle came out and said “Jane, calm down, you should know you are a staff, you will never win for this battle. Then the devil said, say to him you will quit your job, because you are the only staff he can rely on in Taiwan, you should let him know that you are important. The angle said to me, don’t do that, you should have the plan for your living, if you quit now, you will no job no money. The devil said : Don’t worry, you have your husband and sons, they will support your living. The angle told me, Jane, this company is shrinking now, your boss will lay you out someday, he should pay you severance pay, you have worked over 20 years, that will be a lot of money. The devil rushing answered, but his behavior was too over, if he does not respect you, why you need to work for him. The angle came out and said: this job pays well and offers you a chance to grow, take time to find out what you can do, until you have a better job or build your own career.

When I listened to the angle and devil’s conversation, I have the answer in my mind, I will try my best on work and let my boss know, I am not replaceable, on the other hands, I will improve my ability to find a better job or build my own career. Then one day I can say to my boss loudly, I quit.

When we make the decision, sometime we fall into confusion and the life could not backward, Just make sure you’re in the right frame of mind, the reason why I said so is because if you make decisions when you are feeling angry, upset, annoyed, depressed, unhappy, chances are the decisions you make will eventually have a negative outcome.

Look at and evaluate all possible options, remember, whatever decisions you make, do not let your emotions come into play when you make decisions. make sure that you make it with a sound mind. This will significantly help to increase the chances that the decision you make you won’t regret.

My Observations in ALE MAX

Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to~ Do you know whose birthday I’m celebrating to? Good evening, ladies and gentlemen! I’m celebrating to the Birthday of ALE MAX! The Youth Rule says, “Constancy is the foundation of success!” For the past three years, I spent each evening time on the first and third Tuesday per month with ALE MAX members. I join each regular meeting! Wow, how big this achievement is! And what did I get from this persistence? Seventy-four free dinner! Plus Seventy-four public speaking chances! And seventy-four times of observations!

I’m a curious person. I hope I don’t have any contribution to sexual harassment. Actually because of my curiosity, I like to observe persons and things happening around me and of course in ALE MAX meeting! I got lots fun from doing that! So tonight I am going to share with you about my observations in ALE MAX!

1. First of all, always take care of the time for food offering. Someone says, “The way to a member’s heart is through his stomach!” Offering delicious food is one of our specialties, but not everyone can really feed their stomach! Remember! The first ten minutes after food serving is the golden time. Most of the food will disappear at that time! So timer has told you time in Toastmasters meeting is really important! However, speakers always cannot really enjoy the food because of nervousness. So if you prefer to kill two birds with one stone, I mean to also lose weight here, please write down the following information! She will arrange you as many assignments as she can. As you know, I just had only two speeches in the past one year. And see! My fat!

2. Keep good relationship with the members! Or they’ll not laugh while your jokes are not so entertaining. Especially if you choose the manual, the entertaining speaker, like me. If you’re not good at making friends, at least you have to make friend with Jonathan. But why? According to my observation, he is always the first one to laugh loudly while everyone telling jokes. See~ Hoo~ Now I have more confidence! But if it’s even too late to make friend with Jonathan. Use money! See~ it works! If it still cannot work, add the magic words after your sentence. Yah! It really works! Ah Huh~

3. Pretend busy during Table Topic session! We all know the table topic session is a good chance for you to practice thinking with your feet! But sometimes your feet cannot work very well, and what can you do? Pretend you’re busy! If you’re evaluators, GE or language evaluator, keep writing even you have finished your report! If you usually have no assignment during the meeting, I’m sorry! Try your best to maintain your feet in good condition! However, is there any exception? I think Jonathan will say, “YES” because no matter he has assignment or not, He is usually the popular candidates in Table Topic Session! Sorry, Jonathan, I don’t know how to give you a good explanation. But Father of ROC said, “Serve is the goal of life!” The Father of ALE MAX Toastmasters Club always needs to contribute more to the club! How lucky we are!

Ladies and gentlemen, the birth day of ALE MAX is August 6. Are you also the one who has stayed with ALE MAX for three years or you just join ALE MAX for several months? Are you the one who feel like nothing to do during the meeting? I never have this kind of feeling because I do my observing all the time! Except to the interesting things I just said, I enjoy the feeling to see the growth of others. So I’m always satisfied after the meeting because I learn a lot at the meeting and feel honor to be one of ALE MAX! Ladies and gentlemen, as you know I’ll not be here after the second meeting on September because of my study. So please help me to keep this observation and keep your self-growth for me! I’ll be back soon to celebrate another birthday of ALE MAX! Happy Birthday to ALE MAX~ Toastmasters!

Imagine that in the hot summer day the torrid sun hangs on the sky. The sun burns your skin. You’re sweating and you feel thirsty. Your skin is sticky and turns into dark. Come on, why don’t you go shopping in the Department store? Enjoy the cool breeze coming from the air conditioner? Wow! So great!
Imagine that in the cold winter day there is an icy wind blowing. The wind chills to your bone. You’re trembling. Your fingers are numb and turn into bloodless. Oh! Why don’t you shop in the department store? Enjoy the warm breath of the air conditioner? Wow! So wonderful! Therefore, no matter in any seasons or in any weather, shopping will be always your best choice for your free time.

1. At the bra counter
Wow! It’s my first time to visit the bra counter. There were so many different kinds of bra here. When I was taking my pick, the saleswoman came to me!
Saleswoman: May I help you? (with a big smile on her face) I can choose some suitable ones
for you to try on!
Amanda: Ok! Thanks! (the action for trying on the bra…) Um…. Not bad! But they’re a little bit
too expensive. I just have poor salary for each month and I cannot afford it.
Saleswoman: I think they fit your style. A little bit cutie and a little bit sexy! You have very
beautiful shape of chest! Do you see the effect of this bra! It can help you to upgrade from A to A+! No, I mean from C to C+. I’m not good at flattering. But say it truly. You now are as gorgeous as the star 天心!
Amanda: Oh! Come on! Is that true? I think your products are not as expensive as I think and I
really need some new ones. Pack all of them and I’ll pay by credit card.

2. At the clothing counter
Oh! It’s my favorite brand of clothing.
Saleswoman: Hey, long time no see! Come here! I’ll let you try on some of our new-arrivals.
The design of this one-piece dress is more lady style and I found you have
well-proportioned body shape like the super model, 林志玲!
Amanda: Hoo…is that true?
Saleswoman: Of course! And this one is cute style one. Oh! See! It’s also suitable for you
because you’re so slim and have sweet temperament like the popular singer, 楊丞
琳! Believe me I’m telling the truth!
Amanda: Hoooo… Is that true?
Saleswoman: Of course, it’s the truth! Only trim ladies can wear the clothes made by us.
Amanda: Hooooo….. I totally agree with you! You’re so honest! I like this, this, this and this.
Pack them for me and I’ll pay by credit card!

Amanda: Hahahaha…. So now you know another reason I love shopping! It’s shopping is really a healthy exercise because you’ll get lots of complements while you shopping. When you feel happy, your brain will release one kind of happy element, Endorphin, which will keeps your mind in good condition. As a smart girl, please go shopping, shopping and shopping for your health. And for my health I also bought this glory diamond ring for myself.
Amanda: What is this? Oh! It’s my bill. Oops! I hope I can be as rich as Bill Gates!

Hello, students! Today we’re going to write an article. The topic will be “What would I like to be in the future?” If you have ever studied in a school, you must have ever composed this kind of article. Should I be a teacher? Should I be an animal doctor? Should I be a super model or movie star? Should I be the president of Taiwan? It’s a common topic but it always takes me at least thirty minutes to think about what I will be. Sometimes I even wrote I want to be a general so that I could help our government to unify our country and save China people from the abyss of suffering! It sounds stupid but it’s easier to organize without thinking.

But what really is me dream? Uh, let me recall my memories.
When I was in elementary school, I liked to read books about outer space. There are so many beautiful pictures of stars, comets, Galaxy and stories about constellations in those books. I always imagined that one day I could drive a shuttle and become the first one arriving at the edge of the Universe although they says the universe is limitless. I also wanted to see what happens in the black hole. One day when I land on a star named Amanda, I don’t care to say like Armstrong, “That’s one small step for a woman, one giant leap for mankind.” That sounds so cool!
Yes! I have a dream to be an astronaut!(show picture) But I have the tendency of acrophobia. It’s too high for me to go to outer space. And it’s a hard job! Can I make it?
So I’m not an astronaut now!

When I was in junior high school, my teacher of science taught us science in an active way. He gave us the knowledge in textbooks and in our daily lives as well. Because of him, I knew a tissue can fall as fast as a book! I knew I the reason of why we can wash the kettle by lemon juice or vinegar. There are so much fun in the territory of science! So I hoped one day I could discover some principle or reaction benefit to human being named “Amanda principle” or “Amanda reaction”. At that moment I will say, “If I have seen farther it is by standing on the shoulders of my teacher.”
Yes, I have a dream to be a scientist, like this! Uh…more hair will be better.
So I chose to study chemistry. But I didn’t study chemistry with my passion as before. So I’m an engineer now but once again I’m not a scientist!

I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but the content of their character.
This is one part of the famous speech delivering by Dr. Martin Luther King. He had a dream that every race of people can have equal status and he devoted to his dream in whole life. With his efforts, the situation of racial discrimination is improved.

I have dreams to be an astronaut and a scientist. I hope I can have some contributions to this world. However, without carrying out by actual actions, a dream will be just a daydream. I have a new dream to be a stand-up comic! So I join the toastmaster club without thinking because I say to myself, “this time let the dream comes true”. I organize stories about my best partner, Banana. I rack my brain for the way delivering my speech. It’s pretty hard but I enjoy them because I’m fulfilling my dream.
What is your dream? Please go straightforward with your passion and keep going on. Fulfill your dreams!
