Lots of people ask me“Darlene, what is love?”, and I always smile and tell them“Love is the most beautiful and magic thing in this world”.Since I was an elementary school student, I solved love problems for my classmates and friends, they regard me as a love expert. I won’t say I am a real expert, but I really enjoy talking and sharing something about love. So tonight I will share you about what love is.
(Body)
Love is “Accept”~ No one is perfect, especially when two people get together, they are just like two different piece of brick, you have to pander to each other. So If you love him, you have to accept all, including his defect.
Love is “Believe”~ If you don’t believe him and always have mistrust of your lover, I believe the final outcome is “break up”.
Love is “Care”~ The level you care about your lover equals to the level you value about him. Sometimes you can call him and give him your caring. He’ll feel sweet.
Love is “Devoted”~ If you love someone, you have to devote to him. It’s not good to have many lovers at the same time, otherwise you only hurt the one you love and waste your time.
Love is “Enjoy”~ You should appreciate everything about him, and enjoy the happiness which love gives you, then you can love with pleasure, not only be a picky lover.
Love is “Freedom”~ Although you are seeing each other, but you should give each other freedom and the right to keep your own secret. Your lover is not your slave, so don’t let him feel he is like your pet, only can stay in the cage.
Love is “Give”~ Love is not you paid as you gained. But if you don’t give, then you don’t get.
Love is “Heart”~ The most important element of love is heart, if you don’t have true heart, how can you say you are really in love with him?
Love is “Independence”~ The most sweet talk is “I was born because of you”. But everyone should have their own space. You shouldn’t too rely on your lover and become their heavy burden.
Love is “Jealousy”~ Appropriate jealousy is good, that means you care about them, but you can not jealous for no reason, otherwise it will be resentful.
Love is “Kiss”~ Sometimes kiss talks, if you don’t know how to express your love, just give him(her) a kiss.
Love is “Love”~ Love is different from like, it’s the highest state of relationship. So you should often say “ I love you”, I guarantee women buys it.
Love is “Mature”~ Don’t be childish when you talk about love, if your attitude is mature, that will help you to have better relationship.
Love is “ Natural”~ Many people when they start dating, they will hide their defect and become another person. After the time goes by, then their defect will gradually come out. In fact, natural love goes forever.
Love is “Observe”~ You should pay more attention about what your lover’s hobbies and interest. For example, if he said he likes the watch on the magazine, then you could buy it as a birthday gift, and give him as a surprise.
Love is “Protect”~ Be someone’s boyfriend or girlfriend, you should protect each other. Especially be a girlfriend you should protect your boyfriend’s dignity, don’t insult your boyfriend in public.
Love is “Quarter”~ How come there is no quarter in love? When he make mistake, you should forgive him. Why? Because you are the one who loves him most.
Love is “ Receive”~ When your lover do something for you, don’t be so cool. Because this will make him dejected. You should receive it appreciatively.
Love is “Share”~ You should share everything with your lover. It’s the simple duty you can do as a girlfriend (boyfriend). Share your happiness、anger、sorrow、joy with him.
Love is “Try”~ When you have been get together for a long time, you might feel it’s a little bit dull, it’s normal. But it’s only a stage toward to a successful relationship, and it’s also the most important one, if you can go through this period of time, I believe you will have a happy life, so let’s try different way to communicate.
Love is “Understand”~ You should understand who he (she )is, otherwise you can’t get along with him (her )well.
Love is “Vow”~ Everyone can vow. Vow can make your lover feel you love him so much. But don’t vow too often, otherwise it’s meaningless.
Love is “Willingness”~ Sometimes your lover will request you to do something, it may not reasonable. If it’s reasonable, but you are not willing do it, please just say “No”.
Love is “ eXpression”~ when you get together, you should express your thought and opinions. Don’t just keep silence. The gap between you and him will become bigger.
Love is “Yield”~ When you get together, tolerance is very important, don’t yell at each other. It’s harmful; and it can’t solve the problem. And remember don’t say “break up” easily.
Love is “Zest”~ Be passionate to your lover. But remember don’t go too far, otherwise she might think you’re crazy.
I remember Miss momo have said “ The most touching thing a man do to his girlfriend is not give her a diamond ring or a bouquet of roses. That’s he can remember every word she said to him and materialize it one day” .Yes, it’s true. Although I know something about love, I am still learning now. Because love is the most simple and complicated thing in this world. Only wait for you to explore it, I am sure you can find its amazement.

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. When I was a student in senior high school, I was very interested in animal behaviors. I really wanted to know what they were thinking and why. I tried my best to be a Dr. Dollitte. Do you agree that dogs will show their feelings and emotions on their eyes? Ok, tonight I will tell you how.
(Body)
There are four emotions expressed by humans, including joyfulness, anger, grief, and happiness. Dogs also have these, but they don’t show them easily. Before you want to know what a dog thinks, you should image you are a dog. For example, “Pomeranian” is a small breed of dog. Everybody knows they are very nervous. When someone the dog has never seen before comes to its house, they will be barking continuously until they leave. Beagle is a middle breed of dog. His real name is England hunting rabbit dog. Although they always search for moving targets, they are actually active and brisk. The big breed of dog, Labrador Retriever. We call them guide dog. Although they look silly and foolish, they are actually smart and gentle. We’ll do a test of them one by one. When a “Pomeranian” sees you play with a plastic bottle like that. He will be very scared and scrams non-stop. Because she’ll think this is very terrible and take it far from me, please. We know they are so timid. The beagle is different. When he sees that, he will want the plastic bottle like that(WAA what is this, boss please give it to me. When you give it to him). They may become so concentrated with it that they forget the owner and everything. And when the Labrador sees that, they will be very happy but he’ll want to play with you not the plastic bottle. So, although all breeds of dogs have their own characters and styles, they still have some common traits. Just like they think the human is their best friend or even a family member. When you know this rule, you can be more closer to them. Then you will find it easier to understand their joyfulness, anger, grief, and happiness from their eyes. Besides that, I still want to remind everybody. You need more patience for them. Because the dogs always like a child. They don’t grow up.

Once time I heard one of my friend say that the humans are so much more complex than dogs and that he thinks dogs are more of a friend, than humans are. I often think about this story. Why the situation is like that. Maybe you will say that , society and information change too fast or the human mind is so changeable. Finally, I figured out the relationship between humans and dogs. We forget something is also important. It’s honesty. Why do you think the dog is your best friend? You do everything honestly for him. How about what you do for humans? We need to do more thinking about this. I think that tomorrow will be better and the world will be a better place too. Thank you. Toastmaster.

As Christmas is around the corner, you may be bombarded by all the Christmas carols. Everywhere you go, you can hear “ You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout. I’m telling you why. Santa Claus is coming to town.” “Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock.” “ Walk into the winter wonderland.” Oh, I just LOVE Christmas carols. You know what my favorite Christmas carol is? It’s --Rudolph the red nosed reindeer had a very shiny nose.
Not only is the song very catchy but it’s very inspiring. Rudolph the red nosed reindeer had a very shiny nose. And if you ever saw it, you would even say it glows. All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names. They never let poor Rudolph play in any reindeer games. Then one foggy Christmas Eve Santa came to say Rudolph with your nose so bright won't you guide my sleigh tonight? Then all the reindeer loved him and they shouted out with glee Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer. You'll go down in history! I don’t know about you but I feel I can really relate to this story. When I was a little girl, the kids didn’t like to play with me.(just like Rudolph) Why, not because I had a red nose but because I was dumb and ugly. It’s like they put a spell on me. Actually, I believed what they told me until 13 years ago when I met my prince charming or should I say Santa. Unlike fairy tale, he didn’t kiss me to break the spell. In stead, every day, he would tell me I’m the most beautiful woman and the most intelligent woman in the world. The spell was so bad that it took me one year to buy into his story. Thanks to his encouragement, now I have become a very confident person. We all love Santa for his generosity. He would give presents to good girls and good boys. Actually the best present costs nothing. All you need to do is compliment and encourage people. We can make a positive difference in people’s lives by playing Santa. Next time, when your fellow TM members dress well, you can say to them: “Wow, you dress like a million bucks.” When they give a great speech, do give them generous applause. That’s what we call Christmas spirit.

Darlene's C3 speech~My SOS 2005/11/1

Good evening, lades and gentleman, before I deliver my C3 speech, I would like to ask you some questions. First, do you think I am a confident girl? Second, do you think I am the girl who can date with lots of boys? Third, do you think I am the girl who is lack of sense of security? Yes~ today my topic is “My SOS” the “SOS” is not “Save Our Soul”, and it’s not the Japanese play“Strawberry On the Shortcake” .My SOS is - Sense Of Security . When I heard someone talk about their boy/girlfriend can’t give them a sense of security, I always feel he/she is a stupid one. I think no matter we are alone, or date with someone, even get married, you can’t hand over your sense of security to another person to keep it. Because it’s wrong to do so, you should keep your sense of security by yourself.

Actually, the sense of security is accumulated by our daily life. During our life, we need to continuously flesh our life out, then we can own abundant power and experience. The most stupid person is when they are dating with each other, they only want to limit each other. On their mind, they only can see each other. In fact, you have to let yourself and the other to have some chance to meet different opposite sex people. Why? If the time goes by and you have been get together for a long time, and finally he (she) still choose you to be their mate, that means you are the fantastic person on his (her) mind. Furthermore, if we have perfect abilities and conditions, we won’t afraid our boy (girl) friend will leave us. But if we limit each other’s action, even control his (her) life, maybe now he (she) can be constrained. But if in the future, he (she) meets a better or more suitable person, he (she) might leave you as well. At that time we will become more sad and heart broken, right?

You can think over it…When we speak out that we lack of the sense of security, actually it means we are afraid he (she) will leave us one day? After all, what are we afraid of? Are we afraid he (she) will meet a better person? Are we afraid there is someone more attractive to him (she)? Or we are just afraid of being compared with someone? But if we have the conditions to attract them, why should we need to be afraid? Perhaps some people might think it’s easy to say that. Yes, it is. Tell you the truth, I have been lack of sense of security before. During that time, I was always suspicious of my boyfriend. I checked his cell phone and asked him to tell me wherever he goes. Everyday I was haunted with fear and I was unhappy then. But one day, I straighten out my thinking. And I realize that it’s really useless to think too much, because it doesn’t help anything, you just create trouble for yourself and make you down. So I make my mind, I would rather keep the sense of security by myself than create trouble for myself. So from now on, let’s find our “SOS” back, and what should we do is just “Seeing more, listening more, and learning more”. Let’s accumulate more and more experiences and enhance our abilities and conditions, ok? Don’t be afraid of losing something, sometimes, when you lose something, you get more from losing. So don’t take it too seriously, you can have your own better life.

Ladies and gentlemen, “good evening”. I want to tell you some ideas when I play with horses. The term “horse” has 2 definitions in Chinese. One means girls and the other one means really horses. One has two feet, and the other one has four feet. They’re totally different. I really want to share with you how to play with two feet horses, not tonight though. Ok, I’m just trying to be funny, so I hope that the ladies don’t mind. Why I want to share with you this idea? Because I find the other side of human nature in it. Do you want to know how and what? Please listen up.

It’s spring of 2001. I wasn’t doing well in graduate school. I almost wanted to give up. Until someday my best friend, Ken invited me to go to his horse farm. This is my first time to touch horses. Initially I thought that was very interesting and I could have fun there. Horses are huge and strong animals. They are so independent and smart. I was very excited because everything was interesting and different. But when I sat on the horseback and everything was changed, because I was so nervous. It was so high that I couldn’t think. When the horse started to run, I lost my mind already. If you think learning horseback riding is a piece of cake. You are totally wrong. Actually you have to overcome the test of body and mind. Besides that you also need to know how to control the horses, which means you have to read the horses’ mind and the horses’ language. I remember after I did this exercise for the first time, I almost lost control and I felt so exhausted. And the next day I had trouble getting up. My legs were shaking like leaves that I could barely walk. My back and muscle hurt so badly that I couldn’t move. I have even fallen down from the horseback more than 5 times. (worse than Lin Chih Ling) Still right now I am still scared. But why I don’t give up. Let me share with you another story. I knew a guy whose name is James. He got in a traffic accident in 2000. The doctor told his family that maybe one side of his body will be a paralyzed. When he heard that he almost gave up on himself. But his girlfriend and family don’t give up on him. They always encouraged him, until someday he went to this horse farm. He went there to rehab. The horseback riding can improve the cerebrumplegia or paralysis. I couldn’t believe when he has done some exercises in the horse farm. Ladies and gentlemen, horseback riding can be a tough sport for normal people. How about the sick person who wants to do that? But James never gives up however the physical repair is so difficult. You may wonder how James is doing now. He is getting better thanks to his effort and determination.

Life is so changeable. We don’t know what will happen next, or what we will do in the future. From the experience of horseback riding, I learn something about the human relationship and do a good preparation before you want to do something. But that is still not enough, because you also need the will power like James. When I am frustrated or disappointed, I always think about this story. It teaches us that if you can overcome the fears, you can overcome almost everything.
We live in a big world and the horseback riding is a small story. Why do I say that? Because I can see the human nature in this small story. Philosophy exist in many small stories of the world. Someday you will find them when the opportunity knocks on your door. Thank you. Toastmaster.
